inveni0: Now in 2D!
I'm trying to develop another sense of style. I don't want to go realistic, but it's getting harder and harder to land clients since all I do freelance is cartoons. So, I thought I'd start a thread to track the development of this style.
For my first post, this is called "Heroin". It's based off a woman I met once.

I've still been working on refining a new/additional style for myself. Here's what I came up with this morning (very unpolished)...

the first one looks a lot like Michael Jackson. the last one looks pretty cool try to make the eye yellow it will make them pop out but still give it a devilish look.

Pure woman :-)
Interesting portrait, my opinion you should a bit brush your style, yo're on a right way to be interesting :-) http://www.female-anatomy-for-artist.com/ |

Here's something I'm doing as illustrator for a children's book. I'm not sure I have the authority to post it here, so please don't redistribute (I doubt any of you would).
I would like to get a little feedback, as I'm still pushing the style I'm used to creating. This particular publishing company pays a very small advance, so I really just need to get the artwork to an acceptable state. I have some more shading to do, but I DON'T want to finish up and THEN get critiques. Thanks for looking!

those hands are copied and then flipped, I think you should spend more time on the foreground. I'll leave it to this because I don't know what an acceptable state is for the money you'll get.

I just think it's very eerie and creepy looking.
Not quite for a children's book, just my thoughts. |

Actually, that's perfect. I say "Children's Book", but the target age is 12-15, and it's kind of like one of those Goosebumps books. So, eerie is fine.

I kinda like it, maybe one thing you can do is add some stronger light and shadow. as to the technical part it goes well with the project you described.

With all the freelance I've been doing, coupled with the iPhone development, I haven't had much time to do personal projects, but I drew this guy yesterday. I call him Monkeyslug. This is a throwback to my more toonish stuff. He's not appropriately lit, yet. After I finish my next project, I'd like to set him into a scene. I'm thinking something that mixes nature, machine and magic/high technology. I don't know...it just seems like that would suit him.

You have a nice cartoonish style
. The direction you went to in those early images also had a nice distinction!Keep on going ![]()

Spare time has been rare lately. I have one concept sketch for an iPhone game that I'm wanting to get colored and shaded soon, but I have a lot on my plate right now. (Two iPhone apps to finish, 1 MASSIVE website to finish, and I just started a new business with my cousin.) I'm taking my family on vacation over the next 2-3 weeks, so I'm working triple on everything so that I don't have to work while on vacation. Hopefully, when I get back, I'll have more time to get some stuff done for me!
