DWIV - 2D - JuST - Ahgrat
OK... as I have more free time now, I'm going to take part in this event, too. Here's my concept and a rough sketch of the basic action-shot I have in mind. It'll be a Norm Warlord. Last edited by JuST; 30-04-2009 at 08:08 PM.. |

I like the energy of the action pose. It has a nice feel to it.

Here're some sketches of the head - showing different emotions - without and with some hair. I'm not really happy with the hair-result yet.
But I think I'll drop the shawl-idea I had before. Last edited by JuST; 29-03-2009 at 06:36 PM.. |

expressions are nice, good research! I'd Viking mats or cup Iroquois Indian, because the second sketch is really good.

OK... so I made some quick sketches for some hairstyles and put them onto the angry head and the feared head.
Please tell me which of all hairstyles you like best. The long haired style from my concept is No. 4 and you could also vote for a bald version as No. 5. |

I'd go with either 3, 4, or 5. I like 3 because I don't see dreads as much.

Stick with the long hair. Probably going to look the best in the dynamic pose you've got going already.

Thanks for the input omegamista and chris_solo.
Thank you Puckducker, I think you're right... in an action pose long hair would probably look much better than any short hair. I didn't think of that. |

you have a good dynamic in your position, but work more smoothly, your line is too uptight, let your hand and your pencil live, your gesture continued drawing ...
and do not be afraid of mistakes because they sometimes show the right direction.

really let your (at least initial) lines flow naturally and don't worry about being messy or sketchy, you ll get a real feel for the dynamic in the pose and the movement of the character - these are things that I am terrible at too, its easy to get bogged down in details too early and can give a stilted feel to the painting. so go mad, let your wacom make some of the decisions and you ll really get a nice feel for the pic early on.that being said, I think you've got a great idea for the character - the dreads will give him an especially feral look, and the pose and composition work perfectly! you may want to have a quick look at some anatomy studies for the arms, they maybe bent a little more than would be possible, but hey, i'm nit-picking now :P keep it up, and look forward to seeing some updates! |

Thanks L3xicon.
So here's my update. I worked on the position of the arms and the weapon, did a sketch for the background and made alot of thoughts about the overall composition. I also changed his face to look a little more alien-like. So what do you think? Is the position of the arms better now? Does the composition support the action/movement? Should I change it somhow (feel free to paint over)? |

hey there, breast muscles look strange
![]() http://www.musclehelp.com/cmsimages/...gure_front.jpg edit: hmm, sorry, they seem to be quite correct, though his right one seems a lot bigger/ not drawn in perspective. Also the eyes seem to far apart (character right eye is especially far to the side of the head and seems to be tilted different and popped out) Mouth seems to far to the right of his head. (left on the picture) Hair seems to far to the left of his head. Ear is very flat. Hope this helps a bit. ps. if i move my arms to that position i dont think ill be able to swing an axe. Check out the arm chop scene in 300 for a nice posture for such a jumping attack. (2:27 in this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RQm37K-clg ) Last edited by Ojah; 02-04-2009 at 11:08 PM.. |
