3ds max - Copying Keys
Hi, I've long used max for modeling/texturing and the like but only really got into animation with Maya. I'm trying to copy keys from one object to another and suppose I'm overlooking something stupid :P
In maya I always made walkcycles by keying one foot, copying the keys to the other, then offsetting the forward axis as needed, then copying each foot's keys on itself (so it loops) in order to slightly modify them so they're not perfectly identical... anyways... how do I go about copying keys to another object? Thanks in advance! -Sean |

Lol, that sound sooo familiar, I m just like you been using Max for a while for modelling etc.... but always went into Maya to animate.
But now I use both, so you ll see that 3DS Max really doesnt work like Maya for animating. You cant actually copy keys, but you can clone them, select one and shift drag them. But as you want to copy and paste them to another object, you cant do it as dragging so you need to select the track from the graph editor and copy it (XPosition, for example) and paste it to the right track. Good luck ; )

Many thanks!
That isn't quite as convenient or efficient as maya, but I like other things in 3ds max so much more that I can adjust. Why don't they let us select multiple tracks then copy? Why do we have to do them one by one! lol I suppose its because you can copy a track, and paste it onto a different track on the new object, and in maya you copy the keys from one attribute to that same attribute... so pros and cons I guess... Thanks again! |

No worries mate,
Yeah I can anderstand your frustration, but you ll see you ll get use to it faster than you think, actually I really hated animating with Max and now I feel even better with it, I havent touch Maya for ages, as I can only animate in maya, but i can do so much in max... so. Ok dont hesitate to send me private messages if you get stuck, I ll try to help.
