zanman - Hero - Ryu Vanguard
Here's a loose sketch of "Ryu Vanguard". I'm thinking hero with a big sword
. He's a futuristic warrior monk with magical and summoning abilities. The creature behind him is called a Nightcat. He accidentally summoned the Nightcat when he was just an apprentice monk and wasn't able to send him back. The Nightnight although very mischievous is an invaluable and loyal ally and friend. The Scrolls of Eternity were destroyed by The Cursed Ones; a group of fallen deities who've been punished by the elder gods and banished to the earth realm for all eternity. For that reason they are wreaking havoc on mankind. Ryu the youngest of the guardian warrior monks who were charged with the protection of the scrolls was sent out on a journey to find the scribe who wrote the Ancient Scrolls of Eternity and give him the Quill Pen of Fate. With the pen he will be able to rewrite the scrolls and restore balance once again, putting an end to the chaos. Last edited by zanman; 08-11-2009 at 12:31 AM.. |

If I could guess, I would say that he
ainīt got a sword. It is more something like a Bumblebeeīs lost friend, you know? I could expect to see that sword turning into some high tech huge and ninja robot, haha... Cool. |

Just messing around with a couple of different styles. Here's a pen and pencil sketch. I'm going to finalize the character and composition in the morning. I might leave out the huge sword, we'll see.

Here's the last messy sketch and composition. I added another summoned creature "Kumakami". I don't speak Japanese but I think it directly translates to "God Bear" or "Bear God". ![]() |

M_Cederstrom: Thanks. I was thinking about adding more summoned creatures but I think that would make the scene too clustered.
I started adding some color. I added a bit more detail in Ryu's face because that help's me set the overall tone for the rest of the scene. |

Thanks J.B. yeah it's a lynx/bobcat, sometimes I can't tell the difference. "shanmatte30: Hi Zanman...! your sketches are very strong...and bold. what about bg?" Thanks shanmatte30, a bit earlier in the thread I posted the total scene. It has a mountain temple, with a few mountains and a couple of secondary characters. I haven't had much time to work on my hero but here's a little update. I completely redid the face, color scheme and added some small extra accessories. (I decided to keep the sword ![]() ). I'll try have a bit more on my next update.![]() |
