LXD - HERO - Lord Xanadu
Feel free to get your Olivia Newton-John jokes out of the way if you need to
![]() I do alot of character sketching so I thought I would challenge myself to not just do a character but also an intricate environment. The first sketch is my idea for the hero to be in a dappled jungle/forest scene in kind of a you're-gonna-get-it-now pose but on the subtle side. The second one I comped together some reference and part of the original sketch to give myself a sense of scale and shade value. I had originally intended to have sort of a path of destruction through the forest and nothing else but now I'm thinking I may have to at least put a silhouette of the monster in the distance. and there is an indication of another dead/dying guy in the left corner. |

I really like the composition and will skip the ONJ jokes (I was going to make fun of his bunny ears and do a "little rabbit foo foo hopping through the forest joke
).You've set yourself quite a task with the background, but I think you're on your way to a very cool image. Any thoughts on the what you'll do for the monster silhouette - humanoid, dragon, beast? |

Heh no not half rabbit
Those are kinda horn like protuberances from his helmet. He is a cyborg sorcerer so i wanted him to have a fairly outlandish outfit. You can see the most outlandish version here,LXD1 And a simpler 3D version here LXD3D The simpler version will be what I am going to use most likely. I did the really detailed one mostly as a test. On the silhouette, I am probably going to keep it very vague but I'm leaning toward some sort of ogre-ish type guy. |

Sorry about the bunny comment - didn't mean to derail. I'm looking forward to seeing the ogre-guy make it in there. This will be a pretty cool departure from your other LXD treatments.

Afraid I have made very little progress so far, still working on my composition. I can't paint unless I have lines to paint inside of so I am lining out the major elements and refining the hero on different layers. This is them all mashed together.

Looking very good. I like the layout and the tree work - can't wait to see it with some color. Have you thought about doing any quick color sketches? Or are you just going to go for it?

I probably should try to a quick color version, so I don't get stuck obsessing over one little spot before I get a better sense of where it's all going. Still have some elements I need to add also, like now I'm thinking of adding some bodies or something on the road, and still have an injured guy to add.

Ok, well I didn't make the deadline. You would think a month would be enough for "Speed Painting" but I guess not for me
But I have had fun working on it, it's been quite awhile since I tried to do some straight up painting and not coloring line work. I'm posting what I have so far just for fun, any comments are welcome. I mocked up the back ground some, so you could see the atmosphere I was trying for, but there is still quite a bit of work to do. I'd say it's about half done right now. I'm going to keep at it and see if I can get it to turn out.Last edited by LXD; 01-12-2009 at 08:13 AM.. |
