3ds max uv multiple elements into one mesh question

Hi, I have a mesh made up of different elements that were Uv mapped separately and then "attached" so that there would be a single model (for exporting to a game). the model was then rigged and animated.
Now when I apply a UV Unwrap modifier, there is a huge mess of uvs taht I just cant work with. Is it possible to only display the Uvs of certain elements instead of having them all displayed on top of each other?
The idea is so that It would allow me to modify the mesh, and re-uvmap the additional polygons easily without UV mapping the entire thing. I dont want to have to detach anything either, because the mesh is already rigged and I dont want to go through that process again entirely. I hope someone can help! Thanks

Assign different material ID's to the different elements.
You can then select the elements UV's by thier material ID's in the UV editor window.
