Week #4 - The Bench - Low Poly
Hi everyone, still in the churchyard I'm afraid, but don't worry we have lots more interesting objects photographed now but just a backlog with key-wording them and uploading them in the free library.
You are required to make the bench and a simple small scene for it to fit into with some vegetation as shown in the the photos. The limits for this week are 1,500 tris and 1024 texture sheet - any textures are cool, normals, specs etc to make it look as near to the photo as possible! As this is how they will be judged Here is the photo set Please post your wire, clay, texture sheets and final render in this thread, wip and on topic chat is also fine here too, these challenges are supposed to be fun and we are not too strict on the rules. The only prizes are a gold, silver and bronze award handed out to both high and low poly versions each week. Deadlines will be as always Midday GMT next wednesday Also please note that one of the reasons for these challenges is to help grow our free resource libraries, so the model donations at some point in the future when our system is ready would make us very happy and give a new dimension to the free image library we are building up every week. |

Got a quick start on this one; basic proportions in. 1500 tris for just this bench and a some foliage seems like a lot. There will be plenty of tris for detailing out a lot of the bench.

Keep in mind that the 1500 tri limit is the max amount used. If you can handle the challenge by using less, go for it.

guess i have to learn to low poly model things, but this model (speaking only about the bench) can't be all that high poly, unless you carve things in it or model every indentation and it has not got that many

Took a while to match up the textures exactly for each board, but finally have the diffuse of the bench finished. I darkened/increased contrast in the texture a bit, but I might have to lighten it up, or at least lighten the scene to make it match better.
I still have to make some vegetation. I left some room in the textures for some. |

Oooo a new type of challenge! I guess I should try this. Especially since it is something I need improving. That is low poly and photorealism. I guess I am in. Even though I doubt I will get anywhere close to VersionThirst

What? No high poly this time?
![]() I will probably have time to enter this weeks comp since I have no lessions so I can work in school ![]() Does it have to be modeled out of only one object or can you have seperate objects for the different planks for example? Last edited by NinthJake; 03-06-2010 at 08:59 AM.. |

Good morning everyone.
I wanted to enter the last challenge with that nice tomb but time wasn't on my side so I gonna get in now and hope to be able to finish it. ![]() Started an hour ago with setting up the lowpoly model and I'm all in all happy with it at this point. Next steps will be uv mapping and texture extraction from the references. Last but not least doing some proportional tweaks to the final model to match it as close as possible to the references.

Started it just a while ago. Just did a base model. Here is my progress: ![]() |

Hendrik - Great proportions and tri utilization so far, looking good.
I hit my 1,500 tri limit. I just need to make my normal & spec map, then get some renders and I'll be done. |

Here's my final entry. I had fun; textures took forever but I made sure each board matched the reference image on the top, sides, and even endgrain.

The latest entry...
A bit to purple texture on the bench, otherwise nice .overall... Great work guys! A lot of entries this time around. Versionthirst's entry looks great, hope to see all you others finish up as well .Guessing it was only low poly this time because of the object...??
