Speed Modelling Challenge 118 - Video Game System Pt. 2 - Controllers & More
The rules are simple
1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief will be removed and the poster disqualified. 2, You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified. 3, Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like but it must include a clear and easy to see wire frame of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Please use a screen grab. No other method is acceptable and any "wire renders" or wireframes we can't see properly will be removed and the poster disqualified. 4, You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containg the required information will be removed and the poster disqualified. 5, Post only one image submission per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 100k. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images files. Larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified. 6, The creation of displacement maps, normal maps and any splines drawn out in an external program other than your modeling software are to be included in your modeling time. 7, Time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable. These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions Time limit - 60 minutes Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 4th of October 2006 Subject - Video Game System Pt. 2 - Controllers & More Video Game System Pt. 2 - Controllers & More: Ok everyone, this time you are to model out video game controllers and other peripherals. Of course, you can make up your own contraptions... but just make sure it's somewhat practical in a video game add on sense. Have Fun and Good Luck! So we're not limited to creating controllers only for our consoles last week? Really doesn't seem that way, just wanted to clarify. And back to 60 minutes? Some of those controllers are more complicated than the consoles they're made for. Should be interesting.
Good luck all

Best of luck to all who enter
And a brilliant starter, i've modelled that controller myself many many times I want to make the playstation controller, but to be honest it looks pretty difficult. Hmmmm not sure. I might go for something easy like the nes or master system, there just a cube, spline sweep and cylinders lol. Kind Regards Classic Gamer

Ok, completely obvious challenge topic, but should be a good one nonetheless. I'm anxious to see some original controller designs.
In the mean time, I went ahead and modelled the large controller for my Neo Geo from last challenge. Overall it's not that complicated, but getting that curve for the button area just right was pretty difficult. I probably could have gotten it better with two more cuts through there, but I figured I'd be the only one seeing it close enough to tell. Software: 3DS Max Modeling: 35 minutes Video Game System Part 2 - Entry #1 Neo Geo Joystick we're gonna have a lot of entries to edit once the attachments are fixed...

Well I went ahead and did another this afternoon. The toughest part was getting the area around the directional pad to smooth correctly without overlapping itself. Practically needed Hubble to zoom in enough to get between those edges. It worked though. I think I'm happy with this one. I mean, brain surgeons don't cut that precise
. Anyway... since each part was sort of self-contained in it's own section, all I really had to do was work my way systematically down the front, then flipped the model over and added the battery cover. I know there's supposed to be a connector on the bottom, but come on. I almost ran out of time just adding the infared part on the top.So, here it is - The Wii remote (or as I call it, the whyy remote) Software: 3DS Max Modeling: chugged along for a full 60 minutes Video Game System Part 2 - Entry #2 Wii Remote

For this challange can I have my video game system again (X Sphere 360) beside it's controllers and more? or I should only post controllers + mybe some more accessories
---You know mybe I want to show u the back of my console because there are some more ports at there that I can make some more accessories for them... (Unfortunately for the last challange I didn't have enough time to show you the back of my XSPHERE 360,I didn't have enough time to get a render from the back of my model & ...) Regards-A<M<N

Just another thought - i'd seriously love to see someone attempt the megadrive/gensis controller! i've been looking into it, and blimey it's more difficult than you think, especially on a 60 min limit.
Love to see someone model it though ![]() Kind Regards Classic Gamer
