So next one from me, inspired by flashlight which i found on google ( i made some changes to it )
Modeling: 54min Rendering: Big picture 1 hours 45min than i get BSOD ( Blue Screen Of Dead ) cause i tried to kill one hanging process during render ( vlc media player died on me ) and when i hit kill whole windows died , smaller picture rendered 34min...Soft: Rhino + Maxwell as usual ![]() ------------------------------------------- * that "tentacles" or how to call that things what lights are put on are made by that donut arrayed on curve. Whole flashlight works in two modes: 1st: You pull the back part out and all lights arrange to normal flash light. 2nd: You pull back part inn and you can arrange each lights as you wish I wanna to import biped from max and make it pose like scared in front of that flashlight so it would look like he is in front of Hydra but i have no more time for today, have to go sleep cause i have work tomorrow ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So hope you like it and very nice entries so far ![]() |

Flashligh_Entry
Hi Everybody!
Another week and again tons of amazing stuff! This time i went for a rather old school flashlight. I know it´s all shiny and the metal appears too black but first of all i really suck at texturing/rendering and second of all i liked the plastic/toyish look of it. cheers jj |

Sixplode!!! entry nr 4
here is my fourth
entry, it wasn't easy, 3dsmax seems to dislike boolean or proboolean, it crashed several times in the end i still managed to finish it on time! i was thinking all day to come op with a new lamp design, and this is what i came up with: its a light that can split up to become larger, i have the mechanism working in 3ds!

hand crank flashlight
First one from me. This is a flashlight I've had for about a year. It's quite handy since you never need to worry about batteries. Of course, now that I've tried to model it, I don't think I like it anymore.
There were a couple of areas I had to figure out before I could start working on the model. I'll always look for a solution that doesn't involve booleans, but this time I had to work for it. The screw holes, for instance, are nicely rounded and head straight back, yet not toward the center. This confused me for a minute, until I tried beveling a couple faces on a cylinder with height:-0.01 / outline:-0.01 three times. Normally twice will still leave a nice edge after meshsmooth, but was going for something else. After the bevel I pulled the (now slightly smaller) polygons back, not toward the center of the cylinder, but straight along the y axis. I then scaled them to a y-value of zero, taking them from \ / to - -. A quick couple bevels to keep them in place after smoothing, and that problem was solved. This flashlight has 5 LEDs, housed in five circles within a cylinder - the perfect candidate for booleans. Except, of course, if you take an 8 sided cylinder with two cap segments, chamfer the center vertex and every other one out from that. Delete those polygons, and all others except for the top, and it's ready for a shell modifier to thicken it up. I figured I could use the same technique for the lens, minus the deleting faces part. Once I knew I could knock those areas out, I started modeling. Even without those sections giving me any trouble, I still nearly ran out of time. I spent half an hour pushing around that crank and handle section. Just never seemed to look quite right. So, no screws in those screw holes I worked on, or other fine details, but I learned a few new tricks doing it, so I'm happy. Software: 3DS Max Modeling: 60 minutes
