That's a nice looking DS Silver Bullet.
I'm kind of a fan of MrX's bingo game as well. The manual/automatic button was a nice touch. I'm wondering though - does it automatically fill in your numbers (that would be handy), or just automatically call the next ball?

I've tried the PSP a couple times. I never really got far with it. For some reason I just couldn't get into the model that much. The one time it seemed like I had a good start, the power went out. Anyway, we've got over a week left. I think it's possible we can at least get something resembling the PSP in 90 minutes.

ClassicGamer, not much to say. Of course your pile of entries are good (with the exception of that last one ). You had, however, already done the Lynx, so I modeled the Lynx II instead.

It looks like a complete mess when you look at the wireframe, and it kind of is. However, it's made entirely of 4-sided polygons, all one mesh. Most of those seemingly extra edges are the result of connecting rings of edges to help with smoothing, and then spreading out the vertices evenly to maintain curves. I didn't model the connectors or anything on top, and nothing on the back save the two rubber strips - Having everything at some sort of curved angle made sure of that. Also, there seems to be a vast shortage of Lynx II box pictures on the web. Not sure why I got so hung up on putting the box in, but there you have it.
I think I might pick a nice, square, blocky system to model next.

Software: 3DS Max
Modeling: 80 minutes
Rendering: 9h32m (then reducing the file size to 145k to negate all that extra detail)

I was looking at the PSP earlier today ... the lines on it are really going to be a pita, but I should have time tomorrow to take a stab at it... we see how it goes

Great work btw ClassicGamer & Trimyr

Trimyr - Yeah my 5th entry is kinda weak I agree, but I was just playing around in Cinema 4D last night, that bored on a Sunday type 3D doodling.

Your Atari Lynx II is brilliant, you've nailed the details perfectly, AND managed to get it to work with the mesh smoothed aswell. stunning render also. Very cool entry. I hope to see some more from you though.

Well i'm considering making either the Nintendo Gameboy Advance or the Advance SP or maybe the DS, it occurred to me last night that if I was to model those 3, they'll be only the Wii and the Gameboy Micro that I haven't modelled over the last few years. I modelled the NES way back in 2004, last year I modelled the Snes, 2002 I modelled the N64, and this year i've modelled the Gameboy............so there's GB Pocket, GB Colour, GB Advance, GB Advance SP, GB Mirco, DS & Wii left and i've got Nintendo's backcatalogue (I wouldn't consider the Virtual Boy though man that was rubbish)

Kind Regards

Thanks for the comments guys. As far as the details on the Lynx, I found a good set of pictures to use as blueprints, which helped tremendously, but in reality it's probably only about half finished. The curvature of the top isn't quite right, and the real Lynx has more speaker holes than mine. More holes would've meant more cuts though, and I'd had about enough of those for that model. I didn't even attempt the stuff on the back like the cartridge area, not to mention all the plugs and knobs on the top (which is why you only get one view ). Trying to pull a volume wheel out of that mesh is not something I want to do on a time limit.

On that note, I don't know why, but I always try to model things using one object, with the obvious exception of screw heads and the like added at the end. It's probably a lot more work, since I have to pretty much plan everything from the start, but I like the control it gives me.

ClassicGamer - I'd say go for the GB Advance SP. It'll be a good warm-up for the DS.

And Laz, you can start your model over as many times as you want. It's actually a good thing to do if you find yourself running short. The next time through you'll be going much faster. Plus, it's still more practice. Almost a 2 for 1

Arg. I went through the full 90 minutes anyway and this is as far as I got (about 65% completed). Its a Gameboy Color (arg im from NZ and it hurts to write color ((we spell color, "colour" here))) It was looking promising.. Too bad. I cant be bothered starting again with this one. I think Ill choose something alittle less complicated as im far from a "speed modeller".

Here's a quote from the rules:

So just add a render to your wireframe, and it will be a valid entry. (Just edit your post, remove the first image to upload the new one.)

I'm not sure why all the new stuff these days has to be curved, but it's really hard to model

Anyway, here is my attempt (first) at a Nokia N-Gage.

You are automatically DQ'd for considering an N-Gage a portable gaming system...

*sigh* Unfortunately I'm just kidding... but seriously... who ever bought that thing?

lol the N-gage ahhh dear, sad.

I never knew anyone that bought that ever! lol

Well i've just this minute finished my modelling of my 6th entry. I've gone for the Nintendo Gameboy Advance SP, and boy is that system hard to model! I've used all 90 mins for it, and there's still loads of details missing. Maybe i'll complete it as a separate model at a later date. I've used loads and loads of boolean's and with the help of ngon's managed to clean the mesh up aswell. It's a deceptively difficult handheld.

I'm onto texturing and rendering right now, then compositing. As soon as I can get it looks half decent i'll post it up.

Silver Bullet - Great going to attempt the N-Gage though, the curvature is what put me off modelling it, that's what's also putting me off modelling the Sony PSP & Gameboy Advance the curves are tricky indeed.

Kind Regards

Classic Gamer

Curves

That's where Nurbs modeling shines. It can do curves like no tomorrow.

Is why I love Rhino so much. If I would just break down and pick up
V-ray or Max Render for it, I may never model in Softimage again . . .
