1982 Austin Metro City (998cc)

I have a penchant for doing crappy cars, I think they're much more interesting to model, especially the mass produced ones you don't really see that often.

This is an Austin Metro (commonly known as a 'Mini Metro'), it was produced from 1980 as the Austin Metro, and was later released in the mid 80's as an MG Metro, with the option of a turbocharged engine. It saw many guises over the years, becoming the Rover Metro in 1990, and in it's final form, became a fairly bland Rover 100, (losing the Metro name altogether) before it was removed from the range completely due to poor sales, prior to Rover going bankrupt. The 100 was replaced by the truly awful CityRover, which was a rebadged Indica, made by Tata.
Anyone growing up in the 80's in Britain will remember seeing 100's of these cars everyday, even being taken to school in one.

I have just begun this, so there is much to build. Thanks!

Hey it looks as crappy as the actual car
The mesh looks very messy, especially near the front tyre.
You really have to loose those triangles.
Anyway keep it up.

Yuri.

P.s.

A tip I got: Look for wiremeshes from other cars. Most of them are build on the same concept.

Ahh the mini metro, what a crap car!

You form is nearly spot on from the wireframe that you have submitted, but I have to agree that you have a fair amount of triangles on your mesh, especially on the front wheel arch, try to work stick to quads if you can, not only is it easier in the long run, but works out better when mesh smoothing etc.

Looking good though, you've got the basic shape and form spot on. the front grill, headlights & tires are perfect

if you post something here, be ready for tough crits, if you are not willing to get crits, dont post, if he just said "Hey it looks as crappy as the actual car" ok, but he showed the problems to you and gave advices.

You wasted your time flaming Yuri, completely ignoring what he said after that, and didnt use it for thanking ClassicGamer for his critis and compliments.

Thanks, I welcome crits, but not the type that describes 1/2 an hour's work as 'crappy'.

There's an odd thing about tri's that I never knew before I started doing this in games, is that they depend on the game engine. I made models using four side polys, and my boss advised me that tri's were 100% okay, which came as a surprise to me, as I'd always been advised to avoid tri's! I know meshsmooth hates them, but otherwise they seem to work fine.
I'm not sure if anyone else who works in the games ind has the same thing with their engines? I'd really like to know.

BTW, this is 'lo-poly'.

I'll submit a more complete model next stage with the complete shape conforming to the actual car, and see what you think!

I do also work with realtime here
tris are better handled by the videocard, but it does not mean that you need to model them, you actualy need to model everything in quads, when your model is completely done, you triangulate it.
