DeadInTheAttic - Gates of Hell - Charybdis
Hi!
During the Avatar contest I became a member herein. And for Dominance War IV is over for now, I think, I should look for other interesting tasks. Matte painting is something, which I want to improve much more. I like Photoshop and drawing, hope you'd like my final result. The idea: As a gate of hell I thought about Charybdis. A mouth within the ocean. For someone the end of the world, the gate to Poseidon's realm or even to Hades. Attached the first step, collection of references and making a photomontage to work with. Everything will be photoshopped at the end. And I will add some Poseidon columns and - of course - the organic part of Charybdis, tentacles or something like that. The colour tune is meant to be somehow like the colour of old illustrations in mythologie, brown-grey-black ... a bit flithy lookin'. Last edited by DeadInTheAttic; 19-05-2009 at 10:52 PM.. To show every single step ... here the components.
Now it comes to Photoshopping extreme. Chains and columns are made in in ZBrush (though it often crashes, I recommend it for certain elements). The waves will become smaller (making the gap looking bigger), everything will fit together at the end, more dynamics by splashes and blur and a nice colourtune of the beast itself, something magical/mysterious (perhaps greenish glowing ... we'll see ... ).Any C&C welcome ^^ |

cool, if you replace the sea with a proper one - texture wise, and paint over the 3d geometry plus add a nice dramatic atmosphere, it will be great...

Actually not finished yet, the details aren't well painted and to blurish.
Though other timings are pressing, still I want to show the result up to now. ![]() |
