Speed Modelling - Japo - Devil's Chariot - Juggernaught

Hello. I hope you didnt think I would let this one pass me by.

I must say 180 minutes is loads of time, so I had to divide it into 3 segments of 60 minutes. Which brings me to the humor of 3Dtotal staff making the time frame of 60-60-60. Nice touch

Also I found it impossible to commit everything to head, so I had to work on different parts in said time frames. In a way I have turned this into 3x speed challenge, something like you have done with the Robots
competition ages ago. So...
Part one... model first thing
part two... model the second thing
part three... posing, arranging, adding accessories, fixing.

And I am writing this because I am bored now as the beauty render is taking ages

It looks more like steampunk chariot than a devil's one to me, but impressive nontheless.

Hum, are the horse part of the modeling or not?
Because if they are part of the modeling I have a lot of difficulty to believe you did all that modeling and the posing of the horse within 3 hours. Anyway the chariot itslef looks really cool, yeah it looks a little steampunk instead of evil but it is still nice.

Thank you
Yes, horses were part of the 3 hours.
Horse was the first element, chariot was the second. Posing of horses was not that difficult as I knew I was going to pose them, so I made sure legs were simple. Posing the head was the more difficult part of that, as the neck has I think 3 segments along "spine". And horses on sides and in the middle are clones with mild adjustments to their poses.

There will be wire of those elements, so you can see the "before smoothing" wire of everything. You will see that horse is doable in 1 hour. It will include the "basic" pose of the horse. Its is not the best horse out there, and I think any horse lover would place bounty on my head for that, but it was my first horse ever. Oh and yes, because I have been saving time, I have left triangles on the model

As for the steampunkness of the chariot, now that you say it you may be a bit right. The reason why it looks that way is, that even ruling in hell should be hell. So devil has his nice warm seat on the top of those furnaces. And I wanted someting with no emotions. Something with empty and blank expression, like gas mask has. Thats stuff that I find scary.

Hello
Thank you for comments. Still not happy with colours and materials on beauty render...

As for no wips, its hard. I can see point in having wip thread for sculpting, matte, or game challenges, as there is entire month as a time frame for making the picture (I may be wrong... I know matte has entire month though). With speed modelling I personally find WIPs hard. I did split the time into 3 60 minutes segments, but I did the modelling in one day. Its the way I do speed challenges. If I left for example the last part of the model for another day, I would not be able to continue in the same way. I would do something differently, and that would slow me down. If the speed didnt matter, I would post wips. But when the speed matters, making WIPs means stopping. Stopping and starting is too expensive time-wise.

Not mentioning I would be curious about what people would say about my wips. The thought someone is posting something about my wip would be nagging in the back of my head distracting me. Criticism could totally derail me. Positive comments could stress me by making me feel obliged to living up to your expectations. I am curious what people think. And I do care. Thats why I must avoid it while modelling. All that would be very distracting to me when I should totally focus because... the clock is ticking.

Only things I could post WIPs of are the test runs. For example when I try head modelling and see what takes too long, which way to go to make it fast. Those I do on different days, when I prepare for the modelling run. But those are boring and wont tell you much. Also those could be misleading. People could think I am modelling the final already.

If you want peek behind the scenes, there should be plenty on wire picture. I can also post wires of different parts if someone will be interested.
