nice!!
One questions: 1) Does the drill need to be Solar powered? If so, I don't think it will work that well o.O Is the drill going to be on an ice planet? If so, then the planet is solid ice because it is shrouded by its dense atmosphere blocking sunlight therefore no solar power =/. Or is it just a solar powered drill at the arctics? That sounds more plausible. 2) So there are no changes to the amount of texturing we are allowed to do? I changed my mind and now I agree with the rest that this should be SIMPLY a modeling challenge. |

@ zipel - since it's from hand held to big machine it's definitely mobile

I know it will be mobile if it's hand held, but i was thinking on a huge machine (more like a factory size, not a shed size
) |

hmm don't see any logic if the machine drills ice but cannot be moved or it's weight = 100 tons to make it easier for falling through the ice and drilling the bottom of the ocean
i don't think it has to be mobile, but it should be able to drill ice and be easily moved by some means of transportation - for instance by CH-47 Chinook. It's maximum takeoff weight is 22,680 kg so 22,6 tons if i'm mistaken please correct me CG Question - is the purpose of the machine to drill ice, like i want a hole and that's that or to be like a research machine to extract drilled ice (perhaps both concepts work) |

Ice can be very VERY tough! Especially at the arctics! Now for this contest were talking about an entire planet made of ICE. There are MILE long caves in some of the locations! Especially during the ice age. |

I think it has to be solar powered. After all, if we are continuing theme from last time, this would be about the time we have nuclear winter or second ice age. So my guess is solar power is just about the only power around (that and power of mutated two headed rabid polar bear cross bred with elephant, but thats a different story
).Anyways, if the story continues, I am following the tracks from the last week. And I already have an idea. In fact i already have the drill in my head (figuratively). And again it would be based on the "ww2 never ended" concept ![]() .. and amg! I got a perfect idea for beauty render! |
