@Zanman: Thanks bro. What happened to that Manga discussion thread we were going to start?
@H2k1: Glad you like the design. I agree about it not looking too military with all the shiny bits. I will try to do a textured piece with more realistic feel for the surface. Hi all. Its finally done. Wish I could have spent more time on the gun but its all I could piece together from existing parts with minor tweaking. Anyhow I might do a textured model for the beauty pass this time. C&C welcome .BTW, I was looking around to get some references for the final colour scheme and found that there is indeed a species of Krait snake that looks like this! Thats wicked!
i like the gun, and the colour scheme, Though at first i thought the "hubs" of the wheels were fixed to the body, with just the red tires moving. now i see the entire wheel moves. still its awesome ![]()

Lovely. The render sheet is clean, and I think you were true to your inspiration.
2 cents There's one thing that's bothering me though. With such low ground clearance and wheel space, this vehicle looks like it would be at home with crowd control in a clean environment (think Mirror's Edge) but not as effective in a post-apocalyptic warzone (think Terminator 2). All it would take is one mangled piece of metal to lodge itself into that tight wheel well and the whole thing would be incapacitated. I love the model and render, but I'm not sure if tackles the "all-terrain" part of the brief.

it could, if it was something gigantic, like those sandcrawlers from Tatooie
![]() though then you'd have to scale it so that it is about 10 meters high ![]()

Hi guys thanks for the feedback. I agree with you, Bluesummers-3DT, about the Terminator 2 type terrain. However the exaggerated smoldering ash type landscapes that are in the opening of T2 can only be effectively traversed and fought on using troops and aircraft (hence the conception of the t-800 itself). According to the brief "This vehicle is designed for harsh environments and meant to be capable of traversing all types of terrain, from snow and ice to desert and urban warzones". For the most part post-apocalyptic cities will look like the image below and I had intended the vehicle to be more a slither, slide and stealth type motion (like the snake) rather than the crushing brute force motion of a tank. Design wise the front and rear wheels were placed right up front so that if it hit any uneven terrain the whole flexible accordion effect would allow the vehicle smooth motion over any surface without effort.
![]() Yet you have a valid observation in that the vehicle looks too ground hugging at the moment, and its wheels look too close to the surrounding body. I will raise the vehicle off its wheels for a better sense of clearance. Right now I imagine the vehicle total height to be some 8~10 feet and the ground clearance at some 2~3 feet. As Rachel has suggested I can play around with the scale a bit to fix the ground clearance. My thanks to both of you for this invaluable feedback .Last edited by czacen; 19-01-2010 at 08:20 AM.. |

Been following this and I have to admit its easily my favorite design out of all of the entries so far. Innovative idea and the colour scheme is great. But I do agree too shiny, but thats just a minor aesthetic thing.
![]() Hopefully one day I'll be able to make something as high quality as this. |

@ shackleberry: Thank you very much shackleberry. I was hoping to get down and do a totally textured version with scratches, dirt and stuff but just can't seem to get the time to sit on it this week.
@Claw: Just pick a colour and I'll send you one in the mail ![]() @Aramor: Thanks bro. And you're right, there were those other tank bots, but as far as I can remember they weren't very mobile. But they sure made mincemeat out of the humans though. |

Hi all, just like everyone else I'm wondering what happened to the final entries thread. For the time being here are my 3 submission images. I had hoped to do a fully textured image for the beauty pass but I have been really bogged down with work and ever since last week I have been frequently visited by the flu bug. So it's the eleventh hour and the best I could throw together was a Pshop paintover. Hope everyone likes it. Good luck to all, it's looking to be a good SMC this time
