Sorry to trouble you guys but I could do with some advice. I am trying to get my first job in the industry and I'm really struggling. Like everywhere it seems that you require at least 1 year experience, even the runner jobs are difficult to get! I graduated in Design, know a bit about Pro Engineer, Maya and Photoshop. Currently living in Vancouver, Canada but I'm from England. Hope to study a 12 month program in a more specialized field; concept art or animation but I won't be starting the course until Sept 2012 so in the mean time I was really hoping to find a role which is in some way linked to the industry. If you guys have any advice/tips, please share. Thank you in anticipation.

Hello Andy,
Thank you for stopping by here. Yes getting first job always tricky and hard, but it's not possible still. I would suggest to pop round at Siggraph this year held in Vancouver. Their job fair is the best Worth to have a look here for more info: http://www.siggraph.org/s2011/for_attendees/job-fair Good luck and let us know how you get on ![]() Warin

Since we're talking about Canada, try googling for jobs in your area of interest. I found 11 computer graphics related positions in the first two hits.
Secondly, try and make a killer portfolio. In design and CG overall it's crucial to have a good up to date portfolio. And lastly, if the add dictates experience and you don't have it, apply for it all the same. You might not be invited to the interview, but then again you could. You'll got nothing to loose and everything to gain. You just might ace the interview. One thing you must be aware of is that people usually think of working experience only by looking if you were permanently employed, and not part time or freelance. So make a killer first impression with the interview/portfolio and shout out when you get it. Last edited by rocneasta; 19-06-2011 at 02:05 PM.. |
