Lighting black flickering artifacts with 3D Studio Max 2012

I'm outputting a few thousand jpg frames with a moving camera using Mental Ray as the renderer and getting really weird artifacts in the shadows. It only appears when rendering through the camera, im attaching a comparison of Perspective render versus the Camera render on the same frame.

The camera moves a lot but I dont understand what would be making these weird, dark, flickering artifacts all over the meshes especially when it looks just fine when rendered in perspective. It does this on every mesh in the scene.

Mr. Sun / Mr. Sky are used for lighting. Regular Target Camera with near default Mental Ray settings.

Ideas?
