Recce-Bot (character)

Hi all,

Here's something I've been working on, in my spare time. It is still a work-in-progress.

Recce-bot is a reconnaissance robot, set in the not-too-distant future when wars are no longer fought by humans -- but by robots.

Its design is inspired by my own past experience as a reconnaissance trooper in the army. Recce-bot's job is to sneak into enemy's territory and collect information. Upon detected by the enemy, it will attempt to flee and hide itself in the quickest way possible. As such, I have designed its arms, head, eyes and lower-body to be retractable.

I'll post more renders as I continue to work on it. I plan to animate it eventually.

Please feel free to comment or critic.

Recce-bot's transformation to "hiding mode" - eyes, head and lower body retracted into its upper body, and arms retracted and folded to its sides.

Here's a close-up render of its eyes, with "hidden" eye-lids for blinks and facial expression:

That is looking really awesome.

I love the hiding mode! Can't wait to see an animation.

he's cool

I'd like the helmet to either have harder edges or be covered in cloth though - at the moment it just kinda looks plastic and soft whereas the rest of it is crisp and solid looking.

Yeah, a net and some ivy, camouflage style.

Hiding mode is great! I can see an animation with it being surprised, jumps a little, folds into hiding mode and falls on the ground shaking a bit. Classic!

Thanks, everyone!

Yeah, I've been considering to add a camouflage net to his helmet. Also, a few more equipment like a spool of comscord and toggle rope too. I also intend to create a "bike" mode for him, but I'll probably leave that to the next phase, after I'm done with modeling the other equipment and texturing him.

As for animation, I'll probably not do one so soon. I'm still working on his rig and I need to find a more efficient way to control his transformation.
