I know exactly how you feel, for me it came down to who I knew rather than what I knew... a cliche I know but it got me some more work that way.
I've not even got a proper portfolio, i've a crappy website and an out of date blog now showreel and it's only recently i've started getting into animation, you're already way ahead of me. One thing you could try to bring in some more money is sell models on turbosquid. When my work dried up I started doing calenders, book covers, corporate identity packs and logo's,,,, it wasn't great money by any stretch of the imagination but it helped a bit.... £50 - £200 here and there. It's very easy to feel dejected about all this, particularly in the UK as unless your in a design company work is nearly none existent....... I dunno........ be sure of this though, if I ever need an animator for a consultation or help with a job (both paid of course) i'll give you a bell ![]()

Interesting, good character modelling and nice camera moves. Hope you can get him to cough up for the final rendered animation.

damn it man. what the....
you ? give up cg? cow poop. i understand you have to eat and pay the bills - have been through this siuation my self . but i never gave up. i know market in britan ir rough but you could try other countrie markets. there are sites like: http://www.peopleperhour.com/freelance-jobs , https://www.elance.com/j/graphic-des...777864_4150514 and more of them . so do what it takes to get your self comfortable with money and dont quit cg - if you'll try enough and improve you will get what you want. beciedes - what are your rates for modeling? sometimes i need an extra hand in projects. |

Wait, whut?

Have you gone between companies to present yourself, and giving them a hardcopy of your reel and CV?
Putting a face onto a name is surely a plus. Trust me, I get your frustration dude. But, all I can say is that I encourage you to go on. Your work surpasses mine by far, and it'd be a sad day to see you f*cking it all and putting down the trade.

i know how you feel.. i've been looking for work in other areas.. the stress of never getting much of anything.. and like cg said.. your much better than i am.. so i dont know dude.. perhaps another area for a while would be a welcome break from breaking your back for nothing..
i mean the euro f*cks us artist hard.. as there are guy out there on these turbo squid things charging **** all for really well built models.. and then you like why are you doing that.. i mean someone puts up like a weeks worth of work for like 200 euros.. and your like thats probably only about £120 at best... the euro not worth the paper its written on..

It's sad to hear this from anyone... I'm working as a consultant doing applications for banks and insurance companies, run my own house, attend my g/f and walk my dog. But still if I have to sleep only 4 or 5 hours a day I'm not like quiting CG. First time a did a fireplace on max I was 13, not I'm 28 y old and I never had the chance to take it seriously.. maybe I wasn't so brave to take the step and now it's too late to start all over.
I'll keep on learning, posting here and there and if I ever do it I'll be extremely happy, but right now this is life and I must feel comfy with the idea that this is a hobby... I hope you don't give up 100% because at the end, it's so f...... important to do what you like, what you love.... Good luck! |

Stick at it man, you will get there soon
![]() My personal opinion is that ur showreel isn't as strong as it could be. U have strong modelling skills but just feel as though it isn't that well executed. I want to see textures; shaders applied to the models... not a half-finished image!! ppl want to see pretty pictures and clays don't always give that feeling. check out some of the showreels at http://www.cgstudentawards.com/entries and compare ur strengths and weaknesses. I don't work in the industry myself ether (I'm still trying to get in lol) but I know what ur capable of, u just need to work on executing things a bit better. I wish u all the best ![]() |
