Animated Booleans in Maya
So I am back with another Quick Tip tutorial. When you hear the word boolean you should actually go “oooh noo” or something similar. In maya they always where very buggy and instable..I am not sure when the have worked on them, but in my Maya release they seem quite stable and working relatively smooth.
In this quick Tutorial I want to show you how to use Mayas native Boolean operators, to create easy and good looking “Cut-Open” meshes for Industrial Animations, Image Films or Architectural animations. It can be very helpful, because it automatically creates a nice Shell of you object. To The quick tip Tutorial |

I just skipped through the tut, no time today for other than work. But if you really wanted to make an effect you could have made something simple along the lines i did for an architectural exhibition, and show similar examples for film and industry, machinery parts elements etc.

Yea, i just made a huge box, used it for substract and animated the aforesaid box going in directions. This animation had to be done in 7 hours time, since i got a late notice - so i didn't play with forms, just simple things. Roof geometry appeared to have some problems so i used visibility track for it. the rest is Booleanized :P
