Well it seems my run of bad luck is here to stay!

My iMac has been infected by malware backdoor viruses whilst i've been in hospital (through no ffault of any of my family using it) it's just one of those things that have managed to gain access into my system, it's a rarity to have viruses on osx but lucky me i've got it! Of all the f'ing people to get it, aren't I f'ing lucky eh?

It's ripped through my entire iMac system and my external HDD time machine so any possible backups on that system have been corrupted..... which means i've no system to work on at the moment apart from my crappy dell laptop, over 2,500 mp3 of my own music are lost, all my software is going to need to be re-installed after a format, but worst of all of this is that 5 clients worth of work including the latest animation that i'd spent well over 60 hours on has gone.... nothing left at all apart from some renders........... I don't know if anything will be salvaged when I get the iMac back up & running.

This is THE very last thing I wanted to be pi55ing about with once I got home, I don't feel well as it is, but if I don't get it sorted i'll have no Imac to use! If I can't sort it out myself i'll have to send it to a repair shop which I don't wanna do as I can't afford it, and I need my iMac functioning asap.

I'm just sick & tired of this now....... when am I gonna get a break and some good luck?

I feel so bad i've let my clients down..... I can't face re-building again.... it was a difficult animation in the first place..... I've just had enough now..... so sorry guys no new SMC just yet..... i'm so depressed

Losing data is the worst thing that can happen, i went through the ordeal twice, both on external drives. Now i have storage with RAID 5 sending the date online, hoping it will last.

Sad to hear about your situation, it shouldn't have happened due to everything else, from your father to the toe and ...

One thing i can say is that you should just let it all go for a while, two days, week, two weeks. Perhaps something is telling you to just relax and turn your attention to youself, dunno. I'm the last guy to say give up, but this should be take a break before continuing i guess

Sorry to hear about that. One thing with IMacs as you said is that Viruses are rare, but when you do get them they hit damn hard. Hope you get things sorted, I keep mean to join in these smc's, but time is a rare for me :/

That just sucks... Keep slugging along, that's life. Think it may also be that time of year for everyone. Hope it isn't as a massive task as you may think and hope you find inspiration in building your creations again.

i feel very sorry for you John. Losing data is the worst thing that one could experience. I am sure your luck will turn around and you will be able to work it all out soon enough. Take care of your health too.

CG, you mean virus has wiped your hard disks? If so peep Disk Drill to recover lost data.

CG u can always just extend the challenge. Focus on what’s important at the moment which is getting rest and that Imac fixed, ur gona get less done if ur in a miserable mood.

Yeah you're right but hate letting people down like this, it looks like (unless the client gives a sh1t about me, which is highly unlikely) i'll have to re-do the animation from scratch., the worst thing is there's only a few tweaks needed to be done to the animation but without the original files i'm fooked...... I recovered 12 files from it but they are corrupted and fail to open in Cinema 4D.... if I had to remake the animation i'd breakdown it'd be the worst thing right now......

I'm at the Podiatrist tomorrow for a re-dressing as my foot is bleding rather badly.... another thing which a diabetic Dr told me is to try and avoid as much stress as possible due to the trauma in my foot.... but how the hell can I with this lot going off lol..... basically he said try to keep calm otherwise i'll end back up in the hospital which I'd hate!!!!

I agree with roc, i think you should just chill out for a bit and forget all this sh*t for a few days. Have some strong painkillers and cabbage out in front of some films and tv series.

It's the hardest thing to do nothing when you want to do everything, but atm doing something will cause you pain. Everything gets sorted out in the end, just focus on John for a bit. Grab a novel, stargaze for 4 hours, sleep the blues away, do all those little things you wanted to do, but couldn't manage to find the time from all the work you've been doing.

I have never worked on Macs but i have done some recovery on windows partitions, with good results.

Hopefully its just your OS which is corrupted. And the files are still there ready to be pulled out from behind.
But i have no idea how to do a recovery within Mac OS, only Windows.

But I did found this video which could help you out, it should be free, exept the cd to burn linux on, and a external hdd. but maybe you already have one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuTdi...eature=related
I would recommend you to download and burn linux from another computer, just to minimize the risk to overwright files if it is corrupted.

Another alternativ would be to plug the hdd's into an PC, and install the Macdriver plugin (http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive) it does cost around $50. but it will enable you to see your mac formated HDD's in windows. And hopefully you could be able to pull those files over to another hdd.


Like the other ones have said, dont worrie to much about the SMC's, Extend it till next friday to start with. just try to keep the focus on yourself for awhile. I hold my thumbs for you matey, and hope everything works out.
