Maya extruding curves like max?

I hope theres an easy answer to this.

I come from max but have switched to maya recently.

I'm trying to model this shape:

In max it would be as simple as creating the splines attaching them and then extruding and converting to editable poly to create the geometry.

How do I go about doing this in maya?

I'm not sure I know what you mean by that. I know it is a technique from max but I was looking for a way of getting the same result from maya.

Anyway after some playing around I found a way of doing it although i'm not sure if it's the best way.

I created the curves then shift selected them and went to surfaces > planar

I did try this before but it wasn't working as apparently my curves were open.

you can extrude them

open the extrude options, choose distance and you're basically doing the same thing as in max.

you have to watch the curve direction though as it doesn't compensate.

3ds max line tools aren't same thing as Nurbs curves. Totally different thing and I suggest you to check some tutorial about basics of nurbs modeling. There isn't many things to learn about the subject.
