3DS locked model won't unlock

So, I'm using Autodesk 3DS Max 2012, and I downloaded the character model from this link here: http://www.3drt.com/downloads.htm

However, no matter what I do I can't seem to unlock him! I saw the other thread here that suggested I press x, or ctrl, or space, and I've tried all of these multiple times. I see the little lock symbol the bottom toggle on and off, but the figure remains locked. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or how to fix it?

Also, I'm a newbie at animating, so I'm sorry if this is another fairly obvious thing, but how do you delete/clear an animation on a model? I can't seem to find the right tutorial online for how to do this, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

first of all right click on a viewport and select "unfreez all" .
as for deleting animation - delete keys in timeframe.

To Paulinus-st: Thanks, I finally managed to figure it out--turns out there was a "skin" layer unfrozen hiding all the bones underneath, which were frozen. I'm trying to figure out how to bind the skin to the bones now, but finally I can edit the individual body parts!

The animation clearing doesn't seem to work for me, though. I drag-clicked to select all the animation keys in the timeframe and then hit delete and they disappeared, but when I run the slider along the body still moves. Any clue as to why?

well there are more keys that belong to diferent object in youre scene. if the model is animated than every controler has its own keys. as for bone asigning for skin - there are lots of skining tutorials on the net so i dvice yopu to look at them cause there is more to it that a few words i could say .
