Ford Focus WRC
Hy this is my latest WIP. It is the 2002 Ford Focus WRC. I used 3Dmax to modell it. The basic shape is made with >Splines< and the detailing so far with >Mesh Edit<.
Thx for having a look |

Looking good so far, nice mesh. I did start by doing a WRC but now mines just going to be a road-going Focus. Keep posting updates.

Made some Updates: made some changes on the seams, added wheels and other details, as well as some twitching on the mesh. Im am pretty much (still some details to improve, like door seams...) satisfied with the result. Now im going to add the mirror, exhaust, winschield whipers and i am going to do some texturing, I will keep you up to date with my work

Well I tried a new Method to make the edges, it requires a lot of polygons but delivers quite nice results. I guess I have to work on the procedure some to reduce the polycount, but as long as my machine can handle it I can handle it too.
My next modell will be with less polygons, promised. |

Sorry that I can't post any updates, but the polycount has gone through the roof, I have the scene rendering on a friends machine, but I won't be done before tomorrow (Area shadows, Raytracematerials, ...) I am still trying to reduce the polycount, wihout losing the edges, if anyone has an idea, I am really desperate.

How many iterations of meshsmooth are you using? I usually get away with 2 or 3 max.

Normally I do to, but in this case, as I already explained, I had to do more. I used on mesh smooth with 3 Its and then an other one with on Iteration, comes to a total of 4, but I have almost finished the interior too, that increased the polycount alot.

This time I didn't spend a whole lot of time trying to find out the best way to do stuff. Normaly I try to improve things untill I am sick of working on the projekt. This time I thought, I would rush through it, and when I see it is turning out nicely finish off the details. You for instance already made the "Focus" and "Ford" signs on the back of the car, or you started experimenting with the carpaint, this time I left all of that. But my Polycount problem is the price I have to pay now. Hope I can finish the car anyway. Update comes tomorrow I have 2 machines on it

Qubical, this is looking really nice now. Are you going to add materials next - or is there more to come? Only criticisms are
a) Are you going to model the lights or use a map? I would highly recommend modelling as it looks much better. b) The dashboard looks funny around the instrument binnacle. c) The front fender needs some attention around the air intake. Otherwise - excellent work and much faster progress than me - I'm gutted! How long have you spent so far on it? |
