Just seeing if I can get a rise out of anyone. I used to be a bryce5 user and am switching over to 3DSM5, but its mega hard. Why is the texture mapping so un-intuitive? The tree structure is very misleading, and having to pick that I WANT shadows on objects is driving half mad, since I'm used to them showing up automatically.
Did everyone else have this issue when starting out?

I dont think anyone can say that they DIDNT have these kinds of problems when starting out with max. It has a huge learning curve, like all the large 3D packages. Just keep with it and F1 is your best friend!!

its way more frustrating to move from one prog to another than to learn on one for the first time imo.
you're used to the first and you cant help but compare and what is frustrating is that when you know how to do something very quickly in one you have to stumble around in the other. you'll learn the new one faster and after you figure out how all the bells and whistles corellate, you'll find that you'll produce the same quality work as in the other really. the program for the most part is not a reflection of skill level, which is why most people who are not so experienced ask the age old question "which 3d program is the best?" i feel your pain man, i guess my best advice is to just take a deep breath and try to forget about your old interface and concentrate on learning the new one. its a pain in the ass but knowing more ui's can only help. -k
