Very Low Poly Buildings
Hi guys,
A few low-poly buildings (mainly for texturing practice). All the models are under 40 polys. I wanted to make them look like old bunkers that had been converted into small houses. ![]() ![]() |

have you used chamfer boxes or mesh smooth? either way, the corners are very smoothed, if you want to go REALLY low poly, make them a little blockier and cover it up with nice textures, otherwise, I guess it looks good, is it for a game?

looks good, nice textures
it might look chamfered because of the strong light that he has that is hitting the rooftops |

I originally built them using cubes with any faces that can't be seen (mainly the bottom ones) deleted. However they looked far too boxy, so I extruded the top face and then reduced its size a touch to give the bevelled look.
I've used the texture to obscure the edges and corners by adding strong highlights by hand - here at work we do a lot of low-poly modelling and we've found that it's a good way to make something look higher poly than it is. claWda: Damned with faint praise eh? ![]() TyKeiL: Texture size is 1024x1024, which is higher than I'd actually use when exporting them for a game, but give me better renders . They don't suffer too much when I drop the size down to 512x512 though. |

To me the light wall colour needs dirt - especially the one with the "crater" hit. At the moment they look way too clean, making the contrast between the white and the wood/metal too great.
Edit: also the metal and wood bits would still have small fragments of the white material on them but yours are too clean, as if someone came along and wiped the metal/wood with a cloth... |

"claWda: Damned with faint praise eh? "
lol, are you implying on the fact that I rarely say "wow great job!" or "oh my god, you rock!" to people on this forum, cause if you are, you're right no but seriously man I'm just being honest, if something impresses me then great, but if it doesn't, which is the case with your model, I will give you constructive critics instead of just saying either "you suck" or "you're great, good job". It's a disease on threedy that people don't stay objective and neutral but that they rather give comments to be nice, what's the point in that really? sure it'll make the artist more comfortable but what would you rather have, a bull**** no good praise comment or an honest attempt at trying to improve your work? think about it anyway, the style is cool, put the model in context and I'll be a lot more positive, the final image you have in your head is not shared with the rest of us, but I'm certain that'll change when you post some more... btw, try to use as low texturesize as possible and I'm not talking kb - I'm talking pixels...256*256 should do, no? peace TF |

Don't worry dude, I'm only joking - I'd much rather people give honest opinions than just say it's good or whatever.

Very nice. Bump-mapped or just really good texturing?
Anyway to turn those bump-maps into normal maps?(Could be used real-time in a game then, dot3 stylee..))

I like to see if my models stand on their own really
If everything in a game or whatever is a nice piece of game art then the whole will be even better!Anyway, those picsin context are: ![]() ![]() |
