Ogre. A new one.
Hello there, it's been a very long time since I
last posted a project here. Have been working on some but I didn't feel that any of them were good enough too spend more time on, but I hope to finish this one, I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'd like comments and suggestions about anything that comes into your mind, that you think could improve the model. Please also comment what you think about the lighting, even if this is just test renders, I haven't worked with light- setups before so I need feedback. Max 5.0, one week of spare time so far (about 3 hours a day) : ![]() ![]() Last edited by CountZero; 01-02-2004 at 12:05 PM.. |

I think this model is really good. The character has a lot of expression. The lighting is good, begause you can see all the detail of the character with the lights that you set up. I can't find anything to improve, and I think you have captured a cartoony feel very well
. I hope you give him a body, a character as well done as this definetly deserves one.![]() |

Hey man, really nice model. I have no crits and can't help you with lights (i wonder why i've posted a reply)
Anyway keep workin- you are on the right track. If the you make body half good as the face it will be stunning model.

Looks really good in a cartoonish way, you know what you could do. Try making it cartoonish but with realistic detail, I'm thinking that would look great.

Hello, thanks for the comments! Yeah, one thing that bothers me is that it looks more cartoonish than I want it to, I'd rather make it more like "semi-realistic". For now the head is mirrored, but later when I weld it, I guess some more detail could make it more realistic. Ideas on how to make it less cartoony is appeciated.
I forgo to build the teear duct, was reminded about that on cgtalk, so I'll try to make that today. jak3d, I didn't use any special method (started with one polygon, then extruded here and there), and no blueprints. I only used the perspective view for this character. |

I love this ogre man, great design. The teeth are especially cool.
The lighting is also very pleasant. Only crit is you could maybe pump in some more detail, like wrinkles and such, and maybe make the nosebone a bit thicker. I think that would give him a more big bad-ass look. |

Thanks for the comments. I agree about the nose Knut, it definitely needs to be thinker. I just welded my two sides together for those renders, so I didn't notice this problem, thanks! Will try to fix it today.

great I love it maybe you shold ask him if they have claused the monster audition for the new shrek
Great work one or tow thing thou I think the cheek (if that the thing just under the eye in french we say " paumette") doesn't need that little hole you made whereas for a less toony face maybe you should get the top of the head thinner ears a bit longer and upper because they usually are aligned just in the line of the eye and you must get that the texturing will too play a great part in realism... Anyway I love him great modiling clean mesh sweet lightning 'n a good expression (wich could be a bit better). Keep us aware of it ! ! ! |

Count Zero, That's excellent mate. I don't have any crits, but one thought poking at me at the moment, is that I feel you could take this a bit further. OK, so you have an excellent basis for an ogre, excellent, but why stick with an ogre? Could it be taken beyond the usual boundaries, and modified into your own creation. The only reason I say it is bcause I believe you have the talent to make that process an effective one.

Wow! That ogre is really looking nice. Great work, but as knut said, it will probably look more realistic with a bit more detail. Very stylished character.

Hey, thanks for the comments once again. I've fixed some small details (nose and tear ducts) and now working on the hands. When the two sides are welded together I will add some more creases and details.
MonteCristo, I hear you and think it's a good suggestion. My plans were just a plain orge though, but I will think about how to make it more original. Feel free to help me with ideas about this. |
