Dragon
Hey guys, i started this last night, did a lot of modelling last night and aferschool today, and this is what i came up with. I always thought of dragons as grand creatures that are similar to dinosaurs, and should be really wild and free. Ive been sort of using a drawing i did to get the head how i wanted, but its not just like it lol. MaJoR thanks to Vertigo
Since i basically had no idea how to do edgeloops on a creature like this, or even any idea of how to make a decent wire, i used vertigos T rex model as a reference. Not nearly as smooth of course, but thanks anyway Vertigo! Anyways here it is, i hope to model more details on the head, then texture later or something. Enjoy |

looks similar to an allosaurus, are you getting inspiration from that? i don't really like the beak, though. i've never seen a picture of a dragon with a beak before so it's not really clicking with me. it's also quite a large beak at that, makes it look a bit like a vulture.

Hey, looking good so far sarN.
I have never thought that people would actually be using my wires for reference. It kinda puts a little more pressure on me to do them better. Do you think we could see the drawing of the Dragon you mentioned? Maybe it'll help us give you better crits if we know the direction you are taking this.At this point I'd say there are two things I would change. I also had to do this on my T-rex when I modeled it. 1. The head should get a little wider the further back you go, which will allow for... 2. Angle the eyes more like this. This will allow the Dragon to have Binocular vision, and it will just be more visually interesting when seeing the Dragons face from the front as it will allow you to see both eyes. Other than that is a great start and I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses. Here is an image corresponding to my two suggestions... |

Thanks a bunch Vertigo! I'll try really hard to fix it, but it gets confusing once u get overlapping sections, never had that on my cars! lol. lol i think the reason my head is shaped like that is because... well the side view is pretty much how my drawings look, but thats all i can really draw from is the side view haha. But my goal will be to change the shape of the head to be more angled, i think ill cut out this project at the head, since i definitely dont have enough skill or patience to start a body. Anyways heres a render of how it looks from the sidish view, i think ill delete the bottom jaw and start that part over as well, since i didnt like how it was coming out.

I love your Dragon. I am also working on a Dragon which looks like a T-Rex. I love the last post the head is coming along realy well. I only have one crit, the snout/beak is to long you should shorten it. Very similar to D&D Movie style of dragons at the momment.
Great Work, I cant Wait to see this finished. If you need any ref pics I have hundreds, Just Ask. ![]()

Yeah this is lookin good sarN
I was also gonna suggest ou work on the jaw, but it seems you decided to on your own. My only other thought was that the horn mounts look a bit odd- they don't flow smoothly with teh shape of the rest of the head or something... Looks kinda like shreks ears atm, but then it's hard to judge w/o the horns in em- keep at it!
