Portable Sound Recording Advice !

I am looking to purchase a type of sound recording device, something portable that I can carry around with an external mic to record sounds for use in my animations etc..

I looked at a MP3 player/recorder and Sony Minidisc portable but after checking out the manufacturers sites, I found out that any sounds I record externally through the mic inputs on these devices cannot be up loaded to my PC for use. I know some models have an optical out but I do not have any facility on my pc to hook this up.

Does ayone have any ideas on this or know of simular models as the above whihch will allow upload to a pc ! as I would like to purchase SOON !

Thanks

Jay

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

There are a lot of products but a lot, or the ones I have seen so far will not let you upload the recorded sounds via the usb back to your PC due to copyright protection. So if I capture any dictation or record using an external mic, I cannot easliy transfer to my PC, no good !

What does everyone out threre use who record there own sound effects ?

I need something portable so I can capture sounds as I hear them wherever it may be, but I must be able to get them onto the PC fairly easily.

Thanks for your help.

I have a yepp and I can record and upload it to my pc... when you plug it in it shows up as a removable drive and you can move the files in or out.. I have used many of these things and they all let you do that... Mine even lets me recorb radio stations on it and then covert them to MP3 and then up load to the pc... I can even plug a diskman (portable cd player) in to it and it will convert the cd to mp3s and up load... it is a 256mb and cost about $250 us green backs

but as the skillit said, the sound quality is very pore.. it is not the drvice that you need for sound effects... that gets to be big bucks for high qual. digital recorders... good luck let me know what you get
