NO ref pics...as always i'm doing this off of the plastic model. I could scan it.... this is WIP though... NO specific barrel, it's inside, and the weapon is shoulder fired like a bazooka.

nice, post the last picture in a lighter colored shader please, hard to see. Wire would be nice as well

got some time to keep working on it... I'm not going to post the wires ... i do a lot of primitive and boolean modeling with help with mesh modeling.. so meshes are pretty confusing...

any reason why you do it that way?. i assume your doing3 d as a hobby. and just to craete your favourite things.
id take the time to learn poly modelin for the whole things ,a s it will result in a much nicer final image.

I don't really know why i do it like that. I've tried poly and spline modeling, but it seems that i don't have a very good spatial visualization.. if you can call it that... It seems much easier for me to find primitives in the shape.. and do so accordinly. For very complicated shapes i create a spline extrude it and later work on the mesh. For extremely complicated stuff like cutouts and things like that, i used to create bump maps, but it's time consuming
![]() I guess i'll have to try again for something a bit more complicated, i'm planning to actually model a full blown gundam model. But here's the question. How would you create a nice round hole in a cube, like i have to do iun this model for inside of the barel without having to use the boolean? |

Hmm, ive seen a tutorial for exactly what you are asking about, but I cant remember where :\
Maybe someone else knows. It was showing how to make round holes in square/flat surfaces with lots of examples From my fuzzy memory I think they did it something like this: You have your flat poly. Delete that. Create your “hole” (In whatever way you want). Maybe spline extrude it or whatever. Position it where you want it to be and join it to your other object. Then build up the planes surface again manually (ie. Poly create and cutting). Its not a quick way to do it, but as I recall it gave the best results and you have total control as you are doing it yourself.

I could give it a try.. i don't know where that tut is, i've tried couple of other but they didn't work for me. I also have another question for a thing that's been bothering me a lot... considering that a lot of things made of metal do not have the sharp angle corner look, i've never been able to nicely represent that rounded angle most of the weapons have with a sharp corner.. i've always done a minimal extrude-bevel of a poly which gave it a small rounding, but there's got to be a better way of doing it, and making it look.
