Well, let me start off by saying this is my first time tryin to make a mesh with any sort of muscle definition, so I'm finding it quite a challenge to make it look natural.
Secondly, my mesh really stinks. lol. I don't know what I was thinking when I made it but too late to go back now ![]() Only been working on the chest so far, if you guys can give any advice on how to make it look more "superheroesque" that would be awesome Oh, i also havent worked on the back yet...still trying to get the front to look good.Below are some renders I made, incl low/high poly versions. Im using 3d max 6.0 to create this with finalRender as the renderer (altho right now it isnt doing much other than adding that lil watermark at the bottom). If you guys want a specific view, I don't mind rendering it out Thanks![]() And dont hesitate to rip this thing apart. Only way Im gonna learn ![]()

Well I'm not necassarily following that tutorial. I just looked at how the mesh looked like, how he did his mountains/valleys for the muscles and tried something similar.
As for the abs, when you say define more do you think i should like, simply make them bigger (i.e. stick out more)? Or add cuts or what not to make them look a bit more chiselled?

more cut to add volume to it muslce men dont have flat muslce they round off like a bubble
here's a good example look at how many cuts this model has a the level of detail you can get http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread...5&pagenumber=2

I think your are cutting the vertices wrongly, I would cut them leaving four vertices at least for each polygon. And yes you have to put more cuts

1: . keep your attitude down a little. he was only joking - how were you to actually steal a model??.
it looks similar becuase you both havent done a huge amount of work yet and they have roughly the same amount of polys. 2: your chest so far looks ok, but there are anatomy problems, the whole chest seems flat and not realy. you should arrange your topology/edges in a way that follow/flows through the muscle structure. that will allow you more realistic bumps/muscles. that look good from all angles. you need a lot more cuts in there to define this well. but your on the right track . i would say do not bevel/extrude and scale polygons to make the abs . its a bad way and leaves a very unrealistic and untidy mesh. 3: id say go back and research muslces in the chest - then find some wireframes of good chest examples. and make a new version. hope this helps/

Thanks for the crits so far
cgstripe: I think I am going to start afresh, however I've been trying to find some good pictures to help me model the muscles but havent found many good ones. I want like actual anatomical muscle pictures i.e. ones that show the actual muscles. So if anybody knows where i can find some good ones (and im sure some of you out there do) please help ![]() Once i get/find some good reference pictures (maybe even some of some super heros that are shown all ripped and stuff, that would be cool because I could look at how they overexaggerate the musculature in there etc..) I'm going to try to start again ![]()

I would get the shape of your body right before adding too much detail, as it looks too square at the moment. Dont wanna sound too harsh but you did ask!!!
