I am new to the 3D world, and hate to admit the computer age also. I picked up my first computer when I enrolled into school alittle over a year ago. I'm currently enrolled in a 2 year school and I'm majoring in animation. Altought I really injoy modeling and hope to learn every fasit of the the 3D world.
These's are some head shots of my first attempt to moldel a 3D character. I know it's going to need alot of work, but I am unsure what to look for. If anyone can please help me, I need some suggestions on what needs to be improved. ![]()

ok . glad to welcome you to 3d computer and forums.3dtotal.com .
your first head is good .well modeling it seems. a wire would be handy to crit your topologiy. things to point otu that are wrong are only things you can see when you come back to this. i belive you know what wrong but not how to fix it. for example the eye looks wrong as does the oeverall shape. you have dents in the model which you fix through moving verts. the side of nose has bad errors. maybe cuased by more than one vert where there should be one - try selcting the whole model in vertex mode and putting a very small value in the weld button . and see if the vert count goes down. the mouth area looks good. still need to see wire. else have fun and good luck ![]()

one thing i noticed from the shots is that the eyebrow bones seem to extrude to much, they look kind of cave man-ish, but apart from that those wire shots are nice

These are the drawings of the character that I posted. I was going for a comicbook character style.
It's becoming clear to me what I need to do. Tell me if I'm wrong please. Should I model the head in a more relaxed state, and worry about the characteristic when I create the blendshapes. Please tell me if I'm on the right path? ![]()

it doesnt generally matter what position, or how you model the body and face of a character, because unless u are not going to animate him, you will obviously change the original facial orientation..
it doesnt really matter what he looks like now, especially in the beginning stages, unless u arent going to animate his face, are you?

another thing i noticed, i understand that you want to go for the "comic book" look, but in the front wire screen shot, his skull looks kind of squished and squeezed together, and his eyeballs seem to be trying to pop out of his head, as if he is taking a major crap..
try making the skull widerish, if you get what i am saying.. also what program are u using?

Neiyo, thank you for your suggestions. I'm currently fixing the the forehead and brow area.
I was also thinking of starting a new head. I guess the first one is always the hardest. I do plan on animating it and binding him to a body that I started to model. I'm curentlly running Maya 5.0 on a Dual 1.45 Mac G4. This is a rendered image of a the body that I started modeling. It's also my first attempt at modeling a full figure.

Welcome to our little world.
Very nice model, but top of head is too boxy/square IMO Is this really your first model in 3D? Pretty good for a first ![]()
