Can 3DS Max do it?

Ok well heres my question. I was at a site looking at a program called Z brush and im sure many of you have heard of it. I saw in the features that you can do a displacement map. Well I know max has displacement maps but what I want to know is, can you take a hi-res mesh and create a displacement map from the mesh and apply it to a low poly mesh. They took a 281 poly mesh, made it over 1.1 mil polys and detailed it, extracted a displacement map from it, and then applied it to the low poly mesh (281) and it looked the same. Go Here to see
Can you do that same thing with 3DS Max? and if you can I want to know how to extract the displacement map from the hi res mesh. Thanks.

Yes, you can, if you use mentalray (max6) or vray (max5/6) to render (those are the only two i've tried working with).

Max can do it........but im sure not as easily as zbrush. zbrush has a very nice displacement map feature, something that max lacks. However, you can still reach the same effect, just not as easily. It will take some more time tweaking and playing with parameters but eventually the same effect can definatly be reached. And im talking max alone, not with any plugins cause I couldn't give you a straight answer.
