Nice. Way more than I expected.

I noticed that the exploding material is all the same colour even though the asteroid strikes down in the water. Now, it seems logical that the water would be muddy eventually (maybe even very very quickly), but I kind of expected the debris to change over the course of the impact.

Steam at first, water splashing up for just a short second until the water gets muddy, and maybe a different colour when the wave gets to land.

Hard to say really, I haven't studied the asteroid impact in all the asteroid movies.

Thanks for your comment

The asteroid strikes down on the land the other side of the water.
But I agree there should be a quick change in colour or something when the dirt wave hits the water. I do have a little bit of water flying up in the air at the base of the wave, but I should make it a little bit more noticeable

thanks all for your great comments

il_paulio: I agree the dirt wave looks a bit dull, i'm trying to fix that now by adding a bit more variation and detail to it.

sarN: Its a photo of my home city Sydney (Australia), but I did model the city over the top of this photo so I could blowup the buildings.

Darkone1344: I used 3dmax

I'm also working on a helicopter that gets caught up in the mess, I'm currently adding details to the model now. Should be finish soon.

great animation. but i think you should do it a bit longer at the beginning, because it starts and the asteroid comes immidiatly down to earth. it would be better if there were 2 or 3 seconds at the beginning. and i would also change the timer in the animation set it to 5 minutes or so than it does not look like if the camera were set just to show this ateroid.

Trisman:
This is the end part of the animation. To introduce the shot I'm going to have a helicopter fly into shot with the camera paning down from the sky to its curent position. This will give about 3 - 4 seconds before the asteroid comes down.
I quickly put the timer there to see what it looked like on screen, but I was going to change the timer in the final animtion.

I really love that animation darkone, its GREAT

how did you make the mushroom cloud?

the clouds near where the asteroid comes through the sky dont move .. i think they should be sucked in behind th asteroid.

i love it

Holy Crap, You just blew up my old house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. This is the best impact animation i have EVER seen. Although the material for the dirt could do with some improving i believe you have done an outstanding job!. This deserved 9/5 stars! I cant honestly tell you how much i love it. I have just sat here ad watched it 500 times. Its def movie quality.
Get some sound in man cause i cannot wait for this to be 100% complete.
