MAYA: Pivot point stays put when rigging

Being a complete newbie to MAYA and the 3D world in general I have a few issues with my first ever character rig. The main problem being that the pivot point of my eye surface seems to stay in its original position when the rigged character moves thus resulting in incorrect rotation of the eye when looking up down left or right.

I have also noticed that all the surfaces that are skinned to my rig don't maintain their pivot points.

Is this a history problem as I have discovered most problems stem form either deleting or not deleting your history. I haven't deleted the history of my eye surfaces.

Can anyone help with this?

I'm not sure how old this is, or if you've fixed it, but definitly parent the eyes to the head bone.
