Finally Finished
Ok, finally, heres my attempt. been fiddling on and off for 3 days with the lighting and textures.
Modelling: 40 Minutes Texturing and test rendering setup, about 4 hours in total Final render time: 3 minutes ish (800x600) System: Pentium 4 HyperThreading 3GHZ 512mb DDR RAM, Geforce FX 5600 with 256mb RAM Heres what I used: 3D Studio MAX 6 SP1, a HDRI Environment Image for the nice reflections, Vray for render. Everything is box modelled primitives, and then cloned to make the rest up, which really sped things up. Really enjoyed doing this, might have another go...!

Ok, my last one was poo, so i put more planning in, and made another one
![]() modelling time :45 minutes (didnt quite get everything i wanted :/) textureing+ lighting + camera poitioning 45 mins. rendering about 10-30 secs per pic. its all within a glass housing thingy that i made for it ![]() and without the glass housing: the plan was to have it in a snow cone esque shape thing, but i wnt with the diamond shape instead, the center, the plan was to have a orb with an hour glass in it, like i have, but the hour lass is empty, i didnt get time to fiddle that :/ i made that up, so i assume it still counts ![]() i hope they link :/ Last edited by goronking; 20-06-2004 at 05:12 AM.. |

Hi Everyone,
Just as a matter of interest, is this a 'life-like' modeling competition, or just a modeling competition? Wondering as many seem to be recreating referenced objects, rather than more conceptual scenes. Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick. Especially as it is much harder to recreate something real, rather than me using the scapegoat of something that dosn't really exist.... :-) Love the style Otacon... Many thanks, Tom Last edited by Tom C; 21-06-2004 at 02:12 AM.. |

the brief is "model a gyroscope" nothing more specific than that.
Now the rest is up to you to interpret how you see fit as long as it's a gyroscope. The laws of physics will to a degree limit just how much freedom you have in creating conceptual stuff - it needs to work, therefore it needs a large freely rotataing mass/object at it's centre. Andy |
