Usage (question)
Hiya,
Is it allowed to use the total textures in game devellopment... I think yes, because you pay for the rights to use them... But I sure could be wrong... Please, i like to hear an answer on my question ...thanks allot |

Yes it is allowed, but it is not allowed if the textures files are bundled with a game and can be extracted by a user (like with some of the FPS engine games) because then in a round about way this is being classed as redistributing them.

They can be used in games as long as they are not easy for the player to extract (for example if there is a maps folders people can access)
Thanks Tom |

What do you classify as "easy to extract"? If all the textures are kept in a lump file, then would that be ok? That would prevent most of the users from accessing them, but if someone really tried, they could get them out.

If your file system can 'prevent most of the users from accessing them' then this is ok. But please do what ever you can so that the high majority just cannot get at them as its not fair to us if they can.
Many thanks Tom Greenway |

what about Unreal?
to extract a texture from that game you have to open the editor and then open the level look for the texture that is needed and click export, but the file it'self cannot be read you can access it only from the editor and also it extracs it as a DDS file most of the times would that be considered as easy? thanks |

its same for call of duty, moh, UO, and half life, and many more...it is real easy to get the texture files from these games
tho the only ppl that will even attempt to get the files are ones who will use them. mapmakers and sig makers, and so on i dont think this should be to much of a problem as there are so many custom maps being made...and so little ppl playing them. wow i may have some of your textures if ppl are useing them in maps for these fps games....i tend to collect textures i like that have been used in custom maps...tho when i started to collect i was a newb mapper and had no idea ppl buy the stuff i dout most of the ppl even notice the custom textures used. you know what something in the readme file saying that ppl cant use them with out direct confirmation from the comapny...just a thought dout everyone will listen but would stop a few ppl from takeing them ...lol assumeing they read the readme sorry for long post thank you super |
