speed modelling challenge week 3 - mousetrap
speed modelling challenge week 3
The "rules" are simple, 1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. 2, spend no longer than the specified time on the modelling stages then render the image. 3, Post the image here along with your details, software used, time spent etc. 4, time spent on rendering or texturing is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure" 5, if your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable 6, no cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. 7, No limit to the number of entries each person is allowed as long as each one is a completely new model and not one that utilises bits of previous entries prize of a 3D Total texture CD to the best entrant. We'll judge it to avoid the voting process getting too complicated and winners will be notified by email. so, here we go, with your second challenge deadline - midnight GMT Wednesday 7th July modelling time - 45 minutes subject - mousetrap |

It was Tom who suggested the mousetrap would be good fun for this week. It's ages since I modelled one and I'd forgotten just how complicated such a simple object is !!!!

Mouse Trap...?
One doesn't usually find threads that have 19k+ views... (the week 1 and 2 challenges).
I'll join in for the next few weeks. After that I'll have school to worry about... Now, time to develop some ideas! BTW, a belated thanx to GlahES for the comment on my toothbrush. ![]() |

Hi Andy,
I have a question, can one model the specified object in the given amount of time, but then add a scene and maybe other objects around beyond the given time frame? For instance, can I model this mouse trap in the given 45 minutes, but then add mice and stuff that would probably take a lot longer? |

Mose trap aye......
Sounds limited at first but then I mean its a device that traps mice, which could be designed/interperated in a million ways.....

greaaaaaaaaat
yes, yes, the options are limitless, love this subject. I have vacation now, so I guess I will drop by a few times. The time limit sux a little, now I have to model really fast, since I want something really cool, things like multiple traps, so he nibs on the cheese, that triggers a trigger
, a weight falls down, spikes under the cheese go up, when they go up they shoot a little ball in the air, goes over a railway thing, right into the button that causes the cannon to lid fire, and then the cannon fires the mouse. So he's dead like three times. But I'll have to model really really fast Must start planning, this is just one of the options of course ![]() |

mice are evil, but domecticated ratties are like really small puppy dogs. just wanted to make sure everyone understand he said mousetrap and not rattie trap.
