speed modelling challenge week 4 - loudspeaker

speed modelling challenge week 4
The "rules" are simple,

1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for.

2, spend no longer than the specified time on the modelling stages then render the image.

3, Post the image here along with your details, software used, time spent etc.

4, time spent on rendering or texturing is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure"

5, if your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable

6, no cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive.

7, No limit to the number of entries each person is allowed as long as each one is a completely new model and not one that utilises bits of previous entries

prize of a 3D Total texture CD to the best entrant. We'll judge it to avoid the voting process getting too complicated and winners will be notified by email.

so, here we go, with this week's challenge

deadline - midnight GMT Wednesday 14th July

modelling time - 50 minutes

subject - loudspeaker

This was a really hard competition to post with so many great entries, we spent a long time going through them before deciding on our winners. This week we've decided to give 2 CDs as prizes, one to the best "traditional" toothbrush and one for the best original design.

Many came close, Orkron your sheer volume of work was impressive and if there were runners up prizes your first brush would have got it as would one of Glahes and either CGStripe's or Drew Carey's superb entries all came very close.

Some people kind of missed the point, we asked for a model of a toothbrush and got a very close up, beautifully lit image of just the head - artistic yes, but it doesn't illustrate the whole product which in this kind of challenge is quite important. A few of the brushes were kind of unsuitable, not the comedy entries such as the wire brush or razor blades ones but "serious brushes" that probably wouldn't fit in anybody's mouth or reach their teeth

The concept brushes were great and judging was equally tight there with Dead Squirrel and Ultimate Ronnie both coming very close with their ideas for novelty brushes.

Once again thanks all for entering and well done to you all, let's hope this challenge continues to grow like this over the forthcoming weeks.

And now the bit you are all waiting for, the winners are

Traditional toothbrush -

Oindypond - the bristles in your brush were the deciding factor - they looked so natural

Concept toothbrush

Monkeyhead, from very early on in the challenge - all of the judges liked this one

If both of you can contact me with your details and which of the 3D Total texture CDs you would like we'll arrange shipping them.

Andy
