This week it's all about concepting.
The most sought-out skill for a 2d artist is concepting, it's the most important thing in developing, whether it's game or anything else bind to visual media. The rule is - if it doesn't look good on paper, than it won't look good 3d or in the movie, etc. So we're gonna make that this week. Now I'm gonna give you a description of a character, that you will attempt to concept. Name: Knar'zak Grunkhrzt Age: 378 ( the race average dying age is 400, so he's quite old ) Occupation: vehicle mechanic/warrior Personality: very calm, self-assured, not agressive, great sense of humour, happy. Heath condition : the race is generally very healthly, and he's in better shape than most of the other Krnazkutgz's. But keep in mind, that he's old - so the skin is really wrinkled. In this challenge you will need to CREATE the image of the character AND his props/weapons - SO TWO PAGES - ONE FOR THE CHARACTER, SECOND ONE FOR THE PROPS. UNLESS YOU CAN FIT IT ALL INTO ONE PAGE, BUT IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU DO IT ON TWO PAGES. You can also add some poses, fighting poses or whatever comes to your mind. LET YOUR IMAGINATION GO WILD ON THIS, BE CREATIVE AND HAVE FUN!!! Deadline as usually - Sunday the next week - 29th. GO!

new challenge! hey, Michael, I have a suggestion here (hopefully to get more participant for this speed paint challenge), how about a prize for the winner? (like the one at speed modelling thread, maybe an award or texture cd?).The topic for the 4th challenge quite tough and of course...valuable for learning. would be nice to see some entries later . |

Androgs - Oh my dear, sweet God.... I thought you already mailed Tom that you won and you already picked you Texture CD!!
Go and write him! OF course, that every winner of this comp WINS a Texture CD... for now we can afford nothing else... maybe in the future, though... ![]() Mia - the style is totally free, you can make it manga style, if you wish. ![]()

Cause TheOne, the quote is familiar and I just cant place where it is from.
I cant wait to see some of those character concepts, Its always nice different views on a character profile. I'm especially looking forward to seeing Mia's Anime style of work, I love japanimation! Well best of luck everyone! |

You have to be pretty good, eh?
you might be right. But it is only a concept. It's hard to do a whole character and the props in less than one week. So I will keep it simple.

Mia - think - old kung fu movies. Look at the old monks and champions there. The old man can be in a veery good shape, yet his skin can be wrinkled, to accent the age, his hair can be white, the eyebrows can be 20 cm long... The muscles can be thin and small, but with a good definition, covered with wrinkled skin and veins... The health can be shown with a stance - he can stand firmly on his legs or hold the weapon really firmly. Or the way he holds his head up... I see him with the smile on his wrinkled face, like Bhudda's smile. But you can come up with your own idea on how to show it.
Look a Yoda in SW Episode 2 - he's old, has a small hump, yet he's deadly fast and agile. I was thinking about something like that. I was just picturing myself a calm, happy, old kung fu master. And I completely made him up. Sorry, if it caused problems with interpretation. I hope it's more clear what I was picturing. It's a loose description, you can change some things to what you find best, if it causes you problems... The One - you don't have to paint ten props and a vehicle. Just concentrate on two weapons and a clothing. ![]() Rob - it's from "Miss Congeniality" .
