Talking 3D Workstation config info

Hello guys,

I'm planning to totally upgrade my machine.

I'm currently thinking about the following combination:

AMD Athlon 64 3200
1 GB of RAM
ASUS K8V SE Deluxe mo-bo...

Anyone with a similar config out there? Do you think it will be good? Keep in mind that I'm upgrading from a (sigh :\) Celeron 300A @ 450 and 256 megs of RAM :P So ANYTHING will be better

Got anything to say?

Cheers,

Seb

Get more RAM would be the first things that pops into my head!

I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of motherboards and so on myself though - does the one you mention have a built in graphics card? If not, what are you going for? You want something hefty to improve your viewports and your render times.

yeah definately try to get as much ram as possible.
altho it has to be said that if you're doing a lot of 3d rendering, the ram wont directly affect your render speed (i have 1.5gigs but max only ever uses about 600-800megs of physical memory). i believe the processor has more to do with render speed

ummmm....i also have an AMD (only an athlon 3000xp tho). so far i've only had a few small teething problems with it....first was the BIOS being set wrong which gave me regular blue-screens-of-death. so be careful there.
next prob was overheating, but a new cpu fan soon fixed that problem luckily keeping the processor ice-cool doesnt cost too much extra, and it'd be worth paying a bit more just to make sure you don't fry your system

i guess it all depends on your budget tho
