Total Textures and games...
well first of all: I have total textures v1-3 right now, but I do plan to order 4-8 sometime soon, since its just such an excellent set of textures
![]() now my question about the cds: right now im working for an MMORPG called "Locare Ducere" (www.timmerby.com for any info). the game is in early stages right now, but we need a few textured models for engine tests. now the problem arises: whitout doubt it will be no problem to use the textures to make building skins for the engine tests, BUT: at a later stage (when the game reaches a certain grade of playability) we plan to make an open beta followed by a regular operation phase, during wich we will begin charging a monthly fee to cover some expenses. now the question: will I be allowed to use the textures from the cds for this game in this later stage, or do they have to be replaced? I dont exactly know what legal issues might or might not arise there, so I better go and ask before sliding into trouble ![]() (note that the textures will be blended into building skins, they wont be provided as unmodified tiling textures) thanks for any information on that subject ![]() |

I *think* I have read somewhere that they are only for non-commercial use, but I wasnt sure, so I went to ask
![]() (like, their purpose could be for artists only, not for gamedevs etc - like I said, i aint sure ) |

What about the dirtmap and overlays on Volume 5? By the time someone is done using them to make a game texture in Photoshop they'll be nigh on unrecognizable as the originals on the disc.
Would that still count as distribution? Despite the fact that they were used in the production of the texture they won't be useable as they originally were. |

we are also developing a game that we plan to publish commercially. so i guess my questions are
1. is it ok to use the textures for commercial use ? 2. is it ok if they are accessable to the player in the file structure but they are heavily modified (since we probably will modify them to match the theme. id be very glad if someone can answer those please |

well imo there shouldnt be any troubles.
the way the textures are used in our and your games make it basically impossible to re-use them in any way. (like, using them on 512x512 building skins causes somewhat of a quality loss )if you however were to use them as simple tiling textures, just make sure that they arent provided unmodified so that anyone can reuse them (but then again: who would want to do that? most game textures would be too small to be any use) edit: this leads me to the question: how else should we do game textures? I sure dont have the time to travel round and taking pics for textures yet and handpainting basically is out of question since we go for a realistic look.
