speed modelling challenge week 18 - biped character
speed modelling challenge week 18
The "rules" are simple, 1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. 2, spend no longer than the specified time on the modelling stages then render the image. 3, Post the image here along with your details, software used, time spent etc. Please post only one image per entry with a maximum file size of 100k and with the maximum dimensions of 800x600. This image should include at least one wire frame view of your finished model. Posts with multiple renders of the same object will be deleted. 4, time spent on rendering or texturing is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure" 5, if your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable 6, no cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. 7, No limit to the number of entries each person is allowed as long as each one is a completely new model and not one that utilises bits of previous entries 8, No external links to pictures, they must be attached using the browse button and be no larger than 800x600 pixels and 100k. Any pictures larger than this or links will be removed as soon as we see them and the poster will be disqualified immediately prizes of a 3D Total texture CDs to the best entrants. We'll judge it to avoid the voting process getting too complicated and winners will be notified by email. so, here we go, with this week's challenge deadline - 22.00 GMT Wednesday 20th October 2004 modelling time - 60 minutes subject "biped character" This week we are looking for something a little different, not only do we want the character but you need to develop him a little, briefly tell his story. Your character can be anything you like as long as it has two legs. Obviously with the time constraints it will probably be low poly. You don't need to rig it for this challenge (we may save that for a later challenge ) but you should build it as though you intended to rig it.Have fun Andy |

as usual, i'll set the ball rolling
meet "Speedy Charalambos" he's the trumpet playing eldest, of four brothers who make up the world's most average mariachi band. They only get to play in one place which is their family cantina "La CatoLoco" which is miles form anywhere and their main customers are ...., well they haven't got any customers because the music is so bad. |

"This week we are looking for something a little different, not only do we want the character but you need to develop him a little, briefly tell his story." Do u mean personality? or a story behind the character? Edit: Or perhaps both.. ![]() Last edited by H2O-3DT; 14-10-2004 at 04:45 AM.. |

I like this one. I've got this really cool sketch of a faceless guy. A bit boney, and he's got horns and stuff, but he isn't devilish, he's pretty cute. ^.^ I'll see if I can make time tommorrow. I've got a project that need to be finished friday morning (gotta deliver it then) I "only" need to texture and composite the project so I think I might be able make an hour of free-time (could do it now, but I need to make image planes first and I'd wake up everyone with my noisy scanner ^_____^)You can enter multiple models right? |

I think personality will develop as the story behind the cgaracter does. What we are really looking for is people to develop the character, not to model him first then make the story fit but to really make the character reflect the personality - does that make sense?
and yes you can enter as many models as you like ![]() Andy |

Ok, so, no one said it has to be an animal or human, just a two-legged creature, right?
![]() Well, here's DL1x... you may think it's a common robot... well he's not! Have you ever seen human eyes larger than a basket ball? I didn't. DL1x is DLab's new-generation frankensteinoidal droid. He's a small (10 cm ~ 4in tall) microbot with a real human eye. And he's dangerous. Well, at least if you're a fly, mosquito, or any other kind of bug and/or insect. His job is keep the DLab clean from all those... bugs ![]() Hope you like it guys ![]() Seb P.S.: Tech info: Modelling time: 35 minutes Materials: 15 minutes Rendering on Blender with AI: 12 minutes (BTW, I've got my new Athlon 64 with 1 gig of ram, if anyone cares... now I can render things that would usually take me 5+ hours in a matter of minutes. Lovely.) Post processing in PS: 20 mintues ![]() |

Ok, here goes . . . .
Model Time: 60 min Texture/lighting/rendering/compositing: about 10 min Software: Maya 5 This is Slinky . . . he is the youngest member of his tribe. Recently he completed the rights to becoming a man, and here he stands showing it off with pride(though he can barely lift it at all!). Last edited by Etch_Coli; 14-10-2004 at 04:29 PM.. |
