M4A1 SOPMOD carbine [milkshape3d]

Hi, this is my first post on these forums.

I am modelling this for a Half-Life 2 mod called Hostile Intent.

Triangle count: 8298, 5508 of those are in the rails which will be submodels. I'm planning to make lots of different mods for it, which will be used in the game.

It's about 60% complete.

Looks pretty solid so far, 8298 tri's seems like a lot for a game model. How much can the HL2 engine handle? I would like to try some game models as well.

It'll be 2780 triangles most of the time (ie the RIS rails will not be rendered).

Looking Good. I can't wait for HL2 either.
It is guaranteed to be the slickness.

I'll be sure to keep an eye out for Hostile Intent.

Good luck,

Didn't he just say unused RIS rails will not be rendered most of the time?

Sorry I do not understand what that means. Please explain it if you can. Thanks in advance.

It means the rails will be submodels that are only visible when a certain mod to the rifle (for example a flashlight or laser pointer) is used, and for the usual handguards, they will not be visible at all.

The same goes for the upper reciever rail.

Still WAY too much. The Half Life 2 weapons are about 2000 WITH hands!

What he said *Points upwards*

And look, SOME hl2 models have 2000 polies with hands, not ALL! The game is _not_ out yet, all we have is info in a "source faq" on some weapons.
