speed modelling challenge week 22 - key ring and key

The "rules" are simple,

1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for.

2, spend no longer than the specified time on the modelling stages then render the image.

3, Post the image here along with your details, software used, time spent etc. Please post only one image per entry with a maximum file size of 100k and with the maximum dimensions of 800x600. This image should include at least one wire frame view of your finished model. Posts with multiple renders of the same object will be deleted.

4, time spent on rendering or texturing is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure"

5, if your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable

6, no cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive.

7, No limit to the number of entries each person is allowed as long as each one is a completely new model and not one that utilises bits of previous entries

8, No external links to pictures, they must be attached using the browse button and be no larger than 800x600 pixels and 100k. Any pictures larger than this or links will be removed as soon as we see them and the poster will be disqualified immediately

prizes of a 3D Total texture CDs to the best entrants. We'll judge it to avoid the voting process getting too complicated and winners will be notified by email.

so, here we go, with this week's challenge

deadline - 22.00 GMT Wednesday 17th November 2004

modelling time - 60 minutes

subject "key ring/key holder and at least one key"

Good luck

I don't want to sound ungrateful Andy;

But isn't an hour a bit too long for the subject?

I guess you want really detailed works then...

yeah maybe an hour is quite generous for this challenge but there are some surprisingly tricky problems to solve depending how detailed your model is - don't take anything for granted

Hi guys!

Black, I agree with You. One hour seems to be a lot for this subject. But actually, a key holder can be anything.

My first post is a simple one, for the start. Its an alarm control from a car.

Modelling time 30 minutes
render, lights, textures 20 minutes

I have a question: does the model need to have a key on it?

The initial shape is easy... but the grooves are the interesting part... I'm trying to figure them out without using the dreaded booleans!
