help with maps in max3

Hi all,
I'm working on a model for a game but cant get the material editor to allow me to place my new map on the model.
I can add the map to the editor but from there I get the symbol that stops me adding it to the model when I drag and drop it over it.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? The image is a .tga file made when using Texporter. image then modified in photoshop 5.

Any help ??
Thanks Sarrous

you can't add an image directly to a model. It doesn't contain enough information for max to know what to do with it. You need to make it part of a material.
1. Open the material editor
2. select an unused default material
3. click on the little square gray button next to the Diffuse color swatch
4. browse to your image
5. apply the material onto your model

hope that helps

Ah thanks Smack monkey,

Really fixed it.
Had no idea what I was doing.

I attach a copy of the output. I relealise that I have done the map wrong as the face is on the back of the head not the front. but thanks it's a start. I'll have to start looking in to paint tutorials so it looks the part.
