speed modelling challenge week 24 - camera
speed modelling challenge 24
The "rules" are simple, 1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. 2, spend no longer than the specified time on the modelling stages then render the image. 3, Post the image here along with your details, software used, time spent etc. Please post only one image per entry with a maximum file size of 100k and with the maximum dimensions of 800x600. This image should include at least one wire frame view of your finished model. Posts with multiple renders of the same object will be deleted. 4, time spent on rendering or texturing is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure" 5, if your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable 6, no cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. 7, No limit to the number of entries each person is allowed as long as each one is a completely new model and not one that utilises bits of previous entries 8, No external links to pictures, they must be attached using the browse button and be no larger than 800x600 pixels and 100k. Any pictures larger than this or links will be removed as soon as we see them and the poster will be disqualified immediately prizes of a 3D Total texture CDs to the best entrants. We'll judge it to avoid the voting process getting too complicated and winners will be notified by email. so, here we go, with this week's challenge deadline - 22.00 GMT Wednesday 1st December 2004 modelling time - 60 minutes subject "Camera" From a pin hole box camera to the latest digital ones, we must all have at least one lying around which can act as inspiration Good luck Andy |

my non entry
originally modelled in trueSpace then redone using Cinema 4D
basic modelling time - 1 hour texturing time and further tweaking (which would disqualify me if I entered) about 3 hours rendering time - 1 hour |

My first Still cam..
Andy ... THAT is one NICE camera.... I agree with Barks. To model a Still cam was always in my mind .. but not in a speed competition.. !
I did this model from memory.... no reference. I just wanted to know, can it be done in a hour. !! yep it can be.. Real Texturing.. I may take ages.. ![]() Last edited by Renz; 25-11-2004 at 10:21 PM.. |

thanks for the comments guys,
even if I was allowed to enter I wouldn't have put that image in to the context, yes I did model it in an hour but then I spent a lot more time getting it "right". It was a "spare time" project that I did in between other jobs originally and the trueSpace one took me even longer - the model here was a rework in Cinema 4D so I'd learned from my mistajkes in the first model ![]() Yes, it can be done in an hour, there are some very simple cameras on the market - it's up to you lot to be ingenious/creative Andy |

Cause if it is the case of tweeking FOR texturing I guess almost every entry I made other than the biped ones (GUV tiled in ZBrush), the Toilet for the SpyDogs Projector (Automatic mapping), the R2 (Projection tex) and the Mammoth Vacuum Cleaner (What Map?!)... I have always spent around an hour or so to retile the UV coordinates and all... Well after the deadline. I stayed as loyal as I can to what was done till th emoment of "stop". And I believe that that is officially the correct thing to do. I do believe that you don't mean tweaks for texturiing and reffer to tweaks and texturing seperately. But just for clarity sake... I'd like to have this part out. Great model by the way. I preffer to believe that you did ALOT of tweeking. It'll do better to my ego you see. As great as the challenge is.. it's a CHALLENGE. If I take back my complaining about the time being too long for the key chain... would you happen to give this one some generouse time aswel? (Hey I can always try..) Renz... Thats a really good one. Even if it was JUST done (From memory DOES work faster if you really know what you are doing. Better watch out for you this week eh?). ONE small advice though: why didn't you select the option "keep faces together" to false at some parts to get a gripping rig on the lens's telescope or something? Zenit? Woow thats one durable camera that is not credited enough for it's qualities. But probably all over the place in your home land Dymitr? Quote:

This one is really hard to resist I'm gonna enter. I may just plan my model before commiting to modelling, because I wanna do it in that time.

Just a quick entry, a funky USB web cam...
Modelling : 40 minutes Remodelling a few bits when Max crashed and couldn't recover : 15 minutes Texturing and Lighting : 20 minutes Wanted to do a set of lips on the base, so the top would look even more like an eye, but decided I didn't have enough time, maybe next time. |
