re-attaching the reference copy
hello,
I am trying to model a character in 3D max 6. I read about the technique where you model only half of the character and copy that half to make it a reference object. So I did that, and my character is now finished. Now I want to start rigging my character, but I don't know how to re-attach the reference half to the original half. I modeled the half using an editable poly with a meshsmooth modifier on top of it. any help will be appreciated. MedaXis |

Have u used the symmatry modifier?
Anyhow, just go into the original mesh/poly/whatever and click "attach" and target the other side of the body. Then you can start rigging it. Make sure everything is welted and stuff. |

Just one small thing to add here.....
After you apply the Symmetry modifier, and after you've made sure that your modelling is finished, click on 'Symmetry' in the modifier panel, and then right-click and click on 'Collapse To'. After that, start your rigging. Note: Make sure that you don't collapse to Meshsmooth else if you save it, then your object will be forever high poly. In fact, keep your Meshsmooth disabled while you're at it. |

thanks, it worked!
another question, what if my character was a robot. Would I still rig it with the same bones I would use if it was an organic character? Or or there different methods for robotics? MedaXis |
