Save and use animations multiple

I am going to make a animation with a character rigged with bones.
Is it possible to save parts of an animation and use them more then one times?
For example the Animation of making a fist from a hand. I want to use it very offen without copying the keyframes.

Is that possible? Thx!

I know you can store animations in an assembly or a character place holder if you are using max 5 or later. I'm not sure if you can apply multiples of these to one character.
Look at the user reference in max under character assembly
