Bones interacting with floor

I am producing a short and need to have my character jump off a shelf and land on the floor. Can anyone assist me with the best way to make my character react to the collision with the ground? I basically want to move my characters bones but require his feet stay in contact with the floor (or not to go beyond it)

Note: I'm using lightwave v.8.1

Any comments very much appreciated.

Ehhh.. why donīt you just animate the collision?

Seems that you want a rag-doll effect, throwing your character and leting the program carry on the dynamics and physics calculations for the animation.

I have no idea how to do that on lightwave though. I think it would be much easier to just animate the character. Is not that difficult anyway and the results will surely be much better than a simulation because you can make the character react as you like.
